I'll post a link for you to get with other dudes that own your same bike. Should have it up by friday night, if not tonight. Thanks for getting back to me. Will let you know why there are two glasses right away. TT

Meanwhile, drain the dirty oil that's been in there for who knows how long. Then see which sight glass is empty after draining. This should make it clear which one you need to read for refill. Make sense??? Git R Done

Log in and register your own profile at sportbikes.net There are chat forums for different brands of bikes. I looked at the Yamaha guys' postings and most have newer stuff, but they make a new bike that evolved from yours. You should be able chat with those guys, and find one who used to have your model when it was newer. These guys trade bikes all the time when the faster ones come out, so someone will remember yours. Be sure to register and create an I.D. on there so you get full access. It's free. Have fun, it's a cool website. Todd

Oil pumping out of crank breather pipe oil smells of petrol also on my 1992 fzr 600

Hi, Raymond you may have carb overflow issues getting into the combustion chamber due to faulty float or needle and seat oil level readings are taken when the engine has reached normal operating temperature and the usual suspects are:
1. Overfilled oil tank dipstick reading should at or below full.
2. If the sight glass is full you are running to much oil.
3. Excessive blowby caused by worn out piston rings.
4. Piston rings never properly seated.
5. Faulty breather valve or system.
6. Pinched or clogged breather line/hose.
7. Clogged or failed oil filter.
8. Contaminated oil dirt-rust-water etc.
9. Excessive oil foaming.
10. Wrong oil type not designed for your bike.

How to check oil level yamaha xj600

Hi Anonymous, many riders are over filling their oil system because they do not know how to properly read their oil site glass. The following procedure works on nearly all 4 stroke engines but to be on the safe side you should always refer to your owners manual. Use your center stand if you have one.
1. Bring the engine up to operating temperature or let idle for 5 minutes.
2. Turn off your engine and let it sit for 2 minutes, this will allow the oil from the top end to drain to the bottom.
3. Hold your bike straight up or on the center stand and wait 2 minutes for the oil in the bottom of the engine to be level in the sight glass.
4. Your oil level should be between the top full mark and the bottom add mark.
5. Never over fill your oil system it will cause problems:
a. oil leaking out of exhaust pipes.
b. oil leaking out of breather pipe/hose.
c. oil carryover into the air cleaner.
6. Your oil site glass must never be completely full drain as necessary.
7. Your oil site glass must never be completely empty add as necessary.

How to check my oil level on my 94 fzr 600 theres no sight glass

there should be a dipstick on the oil filler cap, if not you have the wrong cap and a replacement needs to be bought.

alternativly, if you know exactly how much oil it takes, drain all oil out. and put the exact amount in.

How do I check the oil level on a 2005 yamaha royal star tour deluxe?

You should have a site glass on the side of the motor down low along the frame rail. You will need to have the bike set strait up and down to get a reading so have a friend hold it up right for you. The oil level should be inbetween the top line and the bottom line that is on the case beside the site window.

Buy four quarts, but plan on using just three. If you actually do change the filter, you will drain more oil. Not all the oil drains out if you leave the filter alone.

Once you drain the oil, your filter is replaced and your drain plug is tight, add two quarts, and check it as you add the third qt. a little at a time. If your bike has a sight glass, make sure you stand the bike up straight and centered, and wait a minute before you take the reading so the oil can get to the glass. (Some glasses require two people to read!)

If your engine just has a dipstick, check it as you add the third qt. Once you think you're in the operating range, put the cap on and run the engine for a minute. Kill it and check oil level once more to see if it dropped.

Have fun, and enjoy your new scooter! Let me know if we can help with other maintenance on the FZR. Later,
TaterTodd
