How about compression. Fuel/air, Spark and compression are the only things that run a combustion motor. You have checked the first 2 but need sufficient compression to complete. 130lbs is what you need. And that is actually the lowest. If you have access to a compression tester and it shows low. Try squirting a small amount of 2 stroke oil into spark plug hole then test again. If it raises it is most likely the rings. If not it would be a stuck or bent valve. I wish you luck.

I've rebuilt he carb, ot it to turn over briefly then can't get to go since.

  • Is fuel getting into the cylinder?
  • Is there a good spark?

If you got it to fire up initially, then it had enough fuel getting into the cylinder to burn.
However, if its not getting enough 'constantly' then it wont run.
Check that the carb is allowing enough fuel to get into the cylinder.

3 rear cylinders not firing

Check the grounds from the rear injectors to the computer. On a bank fired system as yours, all 3 injector grounds on each bank splice together before they go into the computer. Check wire continuity from injector to the computer connector with the ohmmeter.

One cylinder not firing on generator

If you have spark and compression and it not firing then you must not have fuel. the fuel is fed from the demand regulator thru the intake independent for each cylinder. Check the intake and make sure that the NG/LP pin is all the way to the NG side.

2000 VZ800 marauder runs mostly on one cylinder

It seems there is too much of fuel going into the non firing cylinder thus the blackish spark plug, recheck the float level to that carburater and also check the valve clearance.

1200 sportster not running on back cylinder

Verify the cylinder is not firing by measuring the temperature on the exhaust right out of the cylinder. If it is not firing the tempature will be much cooler than the front cylinder. Once you have determined the rear cylinder is not firing then you need to perform a compression test on the rear cylinder. If it is not with in specifications, you may have broken rings, burned valves or hole in piston. Until you run compression test you will not know which way to go.

Engine has spark also appears to be fuel pressure but wont start .winds over ok partly fires but wont start .was running ok but just stopped and wont go.all fuses etc appear ok.no engine management light...

Recheck your spark and make sure you are getting spark at each cylinder. Check the fuel pressure by popping off one of the gas line and see how strong the flow is, if you have a weak flow your fuel pump isnt operating properly or you have a clogged fuel filter. Give that a try and let me know if that works if not I will take you to the next step.

1999 chevy astro wont start has spark and fuel preasure someone looked at and said they think a injector might be bad under the plentum does this sound right before i start tearing apart motor

if you vehicle has a Vortec engine it's possible for and injector poppet to spring a leak , My $$'s on the fuel pressure regulator . it's underneath the plenum (under throttle plate) and to the rear of the injector spider . most times it leaks fuel into the rear cylinders

I have a 1990 fxr with a single fire ignition, cam and s&s carb. I am not getting the rear cylinder to fire. I just cahnged the coil but no change. I have compression out the exhaust pipe for the rear...

With a single fire ignition, you cannot swap the wires. A dual fire ignition, yes, but not a single fire. You need two things to get the cylinders to fire, spark and compression. Take the plugs out of both cylinders. Run a compression test on the rear cylinder. You need at least 100 PSI to get the cylinder to fire like it should.

Next, put your plugs in the wires, (they should already be in the wiresand grounded) and spin the engine over. Watch for the plugs to spark, especially the rear plug. If you have spark and compression it should run on the rear cylinder. If it still doesn't run, either something is way wrong with the ignition or a very bad air leak on the intake.

If you don't have spark at the rear plug, you need to check the coil. A single fire coil is different from a dual fire coil. The primary wiring is different as well. If you've got the primary wired incorrectly, you won't get spark at the rear plug. Go to the website of the manufacturer of your ignition system. Most of them have downloadable installation instructions. Check your primary wiring.
