Question about 2008 Honda XL 125 V Varadero

1 Answer

ENGINE NOISE Honda Varadero 125, 2007, 6.000 miles. When revving the bike up the noise sounds like a turching noise. I don't know if this the cam chain? And if it is can anyone tell me how to fix it? Thanks Mark

It could be the 'cam chain' but you will be getting into a major overhaul to replace the cam chain so if you are familiar with the teardown of the motor go ahead and do it otherwise take it to a repair shop.

2003 Honda Goldwing 74K mles. Whirling noise sounds like in front of engine. It is not the high pitch whirling noise that is inherent in newer Goldwings. This noise just started 100 mile ago. The nois

right found the question
sounds to me the that either the crank nut or the cam nut is rubbing on the head cover casing
pop the cam cover casing off and have a look
for any scraping marks
if that is the problem it needs to go in the shop for a look at
it could be the mains or the spacer washers on the crank
or something simple link the clutch
i know its low milage but these need very regular full service and oil change every 10 to 15k

What is e most common cause to an engine knock on a 02 Harley davidson road king with 50000 miles bike still runs great no check engine lights are on and knock follows the rpm level

I'm sorry, but I don't know a lot about the Twin Cam engines but they are not that much different from the Evolution engines. One of the weak points in any Harley engine is the rollers on the ends of the tappets. The small needle bearing goes bad and it starts to knock. It will eventually lock up and ruin the camshaft that it's riding on. In your case there are two cams and it will ruin the one it's on. With 50K on the engine, that would be my guess as the I've seen the bottom ends of Evo engines still tight after 70K miles. I could also be one of the chain tensioners in the cam chest but usually people describe that noise as a whining type noise. If you still have the original pushrods in your engine, you will have to remove the rocker box covers to get the tappet blocks out.

Good luck
Steve

Is the enginesuppose to make noise like a tapping sound just got the bike and not use to noise from engine bike runs fine has 21000 miles on it plenty of oil in it and well taken care of

The Vol/C50 has had its engine referred to as the "angry sewing machine" for the valve noise, which is normal. If you do not know if the valves have been adjusted recently, it would be a good idea to do so. Fortunately, a noisy engine may be closer to sped than one that is too quiet- if the exhaust valve are too tight, you can burn one in time. A louder, clunking noise from the lower side case maight indicate and early demise for the cam chain tensioner, which has been a problem for some people. My '05 is right at 32K, with no problems at all.

When warm i notice a cam chain type noise. could this be a worn cam chain tensioner . the bike has covered 36000 miles

it can either be a worn tensioner or need for a valve adjustment. if you rev the engine and noise goes away, you need a new cam chain tensioner. if the noise remains or gets worse when you rev it up, you need a valve adjustment and should replac the tensioner anyway. 36,000 miles on the motor is definitely mileage for an adjustment if it's never had one.

NOISE IN FRONT CLYNDER

It sounds like an easy solution, but what shape is the rest of the engine in? You have got some miles on that baby. My 02 has 15,000 miles on it, and I thought it was a lot. I don't know how you can hear it, but it does sound correct , what the dealer is saying. I would get a second opinion from a guy who sleeps with Harley's, has bikes in his living room and has engines sitting on the dining room table. He''ll know. Hope this helps.

Engine noise Yamaha FJR 1300 2005, rattling sound at idle, goes away with very hot engine temps. The sound started very small maybe a tap here and there at idle. Now its very noticeable. I checked valve...

I would be looking again at the cam chain tensioner. I have replaced 2 on my 05 so far and it was doing the same thing. the other known problem for noise in the engine like that is the valve guides are know to wear prematurely on 05's and the 03 and 04. Yamaha knows about the problem and will fix it under a one time warranty even if you do not have the extended warranty on the bike. Make sure you talk to the dealer about premature valve guide wear.

Noise in Engine

Try these for valve train noise:

1. Low oil pressure caused by oil feed pump not functioning
properly or oil passages obstructed.
2. Faulty hydraulic lifter(s).
3. Bent push rod(s).
4. Incorrect push rod length.
5. Rocker arm binding on shaft.
6. Valve sticking in guide.
7. Chain tensioning spring or shoe worn.
8. Cam(s), cam gear(s) or cam bushing(s) worn.
9. Cam timing incorrect.

Rattling noise from engine sometimes . mostly when choke just turned off or slowing to stop early on . not as bad when done a few miles . 15000 miles on clock . suspect cam chain tensioners ?

Its probably the automatic cam chain tensioner. Honda told me to ignore the noise because nothing bad is happening. My bike shop said I should replace it with a manual tensioner. I have 15300 miles and will leave it be.
