Car shuts off while the car is on idle.

The car turns on everytime im out doing errands. The problems happens when on during the day when its hot outside. When the engine starts warming up and while I am driving the RPM starts dropping dramatically when the car sits on idle at a stop light or while im parking. I Need to add that the car is a 5 speed. It mostly happens during the day but rarely at night. Im thinking that the night is much cooler and the oil doesnt thin up while during the day the oil does thin up and then cause the most problems.

SOURCE: engines idles rough and shuts off

  1. Answer: The engine noise, it is impossible for us to help you here without listening to the engine ourselves. As for your idling problem, check all the vacuum hoses and intake manifold gaskets as you might have a slight vacuum leak somewhere. In addition, check the idle speed control motor to make sure it is operating properly. If all checks out okay, scan the computer for fault codes. Scan the computer for fault codes. Also, check the oxygen sensor and coolant sensors and also Check your EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve it sounds like it is stuck open and needs replacing

Ask question fixya

have a pressure test done on the fuel manifold to check for pump-regulator pressure and filter performance. You state that the filter was last changed in 2007 so it is well past it's blocked up date .. Run fault codes . replace the canister . Have a compression test done as the engine is getting long in the tooth and may need refreshing .. Check that the cat converter is still operational as they will block up the exhaust system and cause poor performance

Why does my car overheat sometimes?

sounds like thermostat problem. of course it will heat up faster if you run a/c because motor is under more stress. follow the big hose from radiator and where it goes into the top of engine is your thermostat

Truck shuts off while in park idling.

Your car is 18 years old. It's likely history. Sell it as is for what you can get.

No fuel when car is hot - won't start

I doubt it is the ECM, that doesn't really make any sense to me. I believe your fuel pump is the issue. What do you mean it isn't on under these conditions? When you do a long errand it start and is fine, right? It is heating up during your drive, then won't start up after your short errand. That's why I ask if a longer errand would be fine, and obviously in cold weather, this would be the same. A longer errand lets it cool down.

Does the engine crank and turn over easily when it is hot? If not, it could just be the battery, but I kind of doubt it. Also, you are using premium 92 octane gas right? That care needs it.

Lastly, if you give it some gas before you start and while you start it, you may get it started. I'd hit the pedal a few times before starting and definitely hit the gas when you start it.

It's not the ECM; I would be shocked.

Good luck!!

02 Z24 Cavalier Misfiring Need HELP!!!!

Have you tried to isolate whitch cylinder is missing? Try pulling your wires off and replacing one at a time and listen to your engine find the cylinder that doesnt make a difference in the way your car is idling when you remove that wire. You may have a bad injector or possible stuck valve or you can have low compression in that cylinder. You can get a cylinder compression tester from Autozone and check the compression of that cylinder against the compression of all the others. They should all be pretty close to the same PSI. If you have a large fluctuation in pressure then you may have some internal problems. Hope that this helped.

Problem when only when it's hot outside

This is a symptom of a bad coil. The car will generally idle well, and performance will deteriorate when the car (and the coil pack)warms up.
