Shadtree replacement of a front wheel bearing possible?

Is it possible to replace FWB earing on an 85 Dodge Lancer fwd at home using a rented bearing install kit? Does the shaft spline easily separate from the spindle? What size is the drive shaft hub nut? I have a 1/2 inch socket set but that nut looks special. Thanks.

The nut is special its metric, the parts store will know its like a 30or35. i know an inch and a half socket is to small If you got the tool i see no problem. you may have to tap on it a little but it should come right out.

ES Lancer - vibration, dull grinding noise when turning right, even at low speeds. Intensifies as I approach 30+mph. Replaced CV Axle, Tie Rod End, Bearing, and Hub. No dice.

Turning right and having a loader noise, means the left/drivers side is bad. Turn right, more pressure on the left side. and vice versa.

How do I replace a front wheel bearing?

front wheel bearing is pressed into hub and has retaining clip on rear and then cv axle shaft comes through center and has a nut and keeper pin. Rule of thumb is to replace both front wheel bearings at same time. raise front of vehicle place on jackstands for safety remove front wheels remove brake calipers remove front rotors and cv axles remove steering hub assy from lower ball joint, tie rod end and struts take hub to shop and have bearing pressed out have new bearings pressed in reassemble front wheels in reverse order of disassembly.

Is it possible to replace a front wheel bearing at home on a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer?

You would be better off replacing the entire hub assembly. Yes, bearings need to be pressed into place and this requires a hydraulic press.

New rotor, pads & bearing left side wheel makes humming sound from there at high speed 65 +

I would have bet money on the wheel bearing but since you replaced it and its still there guess that rules that out. So try rotating the left tire to a different position on the truck. You may have a tire that is out of round or cupped or seperated tread. I know that seems stupid but it will rule out the tire. What would really be useful is a set of chassis ears. This a tool that utilizes headphones and a series of clamps that you can clip onto different parts of the car. Using this you can hone in on exactly where the noise is coming from. Might be available to rent from some parts chain stores.
I recently drove a pick up that I would swear had a rear axle bearing going out on it. As it turned out it was a front wheel bearing. I say this because noises can sound completly different when your driving than from what they really are. You may have a right side bearing problem? Chassis ears would definatly be a big help. Good luck!

02 Lancer ES help with diagnosing left side of Engine Vibration noise.

sounds more like a wheel bearing, jack the car up and support with axle stands, then grab the front left wheel at both sides and shake it hard.then grab it at the top and bottom and shake it hard.if a knocking can be felt through the wheel then its most likely a wheel bearing.repeat the test for the rear wheel.also with the vehicle jacked up,spin the wheel and put your ear next to it,if it makes a dry whirring or grinding sound as it spins, this is a symptom of a worn wheel bearing
