Sounds like you have a charging system problem. If you jumped the bike off of another vehicle you likely fried the regulator and/or the stator or they could have a bag connection (never jump start a bike/scooter etc). the voltage regulator converts the AC power produced by the stator and converts it into DC power so the battery can charge. If it's not converting the power the AC power will continually go into and out of the battery (since AC power moves back and forth instead of in a straight line like DC power.) Look up the testing procedures for the voltage regulator or take it to shop. you could also find one for cheap on ebay if you don't want to take it to a technician.

Your running off the battery until it dies. Check your chargng system. It should put out 13.0-14.5 volts. If not then the current will flow from what ever source has the most voltage. Thus, your dead battery. Try changing he voltage regulator and then check the stator next. Sometime stators can have burned section on them and reduce the voltage produced to the battery. Also check for really good connectin to the terminals. This can rob current and voltage by upt o 40%.

Ck fuses and wire connections first. If no problem seen, get bike running and disconnect the ground cable @ battery. If bike dies the problem generally is in the stator or regulator assembly not keeping battery charged. Bike will run untill the battery is too low to keep the ignition system energized and the bike will die. If it continues running w/the ground disconnected, the battery could have a dead cell which will drain the battery in a very short time whether it is running or not.

your katana does have an alternator on the rear of the motor

regulator problem!!....battery should charge a lot higher when throttle is rapped up to around 4000rpm...should go up to 13.5 to 14 volts then go down quickly to 13v.... no less. check for loose connections on both stator and regulator connections..clean it up could be dirty connections. a battery that is less than 12.6 volts means it needs charging,....and definately a batterty that reads only 12v volts is not good.

Seems you are running entirely off your battery.
Indications are a suspect lighting or source coil is shorting. Resistance test will show discrepancies. Data is available on-line, search technical/electrical manuals from Clymer or Haynes. An auto shop sells cheap multi-meters than you can use. It is a stationary test and will identify individual component problems. As rectifier/regulator, cdi box and wiring/switches/connections all have an effect. These test are outlined within these publications. Cheers (and don't get caught)
