A KX 250 has no timing it is a 2 stoke motor are we sure it is KX 250 and not something else ??

Hi I have a 1985 Honda XL100 Id like to know the procedure for setting the ignition timing. I know how to set the points but its the timing I dont know. Is it the timing chain that I have to check...


if it create backfire the timing is not set properly, put the timing mark T of the flywheel to the center of the hole of the crankcase, be sure your in power stroke position.how to know that your in power stroke position get the cover of intake and exhaust valve then put the T of the flywheel on the center of the hole, then move the flywheel back and forth if you see that your valve is moving turn the flywheel another turn 360 degress and check the valve will not move that is already power stroke. that"s the time you can set your timing, center T on the hole and then the cam sprocket has a 0 put it on the top there is slash on the top of your cylinder center it.

Timing on a kawasaki vulcan 750 1995 model, timing is totally off and bike has problem idling. It cuts off if you are not reving it. I want to know where to adust it.


timing9ignition) is pre set and does not need adjusting unless tampered with look for a black cable with a black knob on end turn clockwise however from what you describe you might have numerous other problems

Wanting to know what the timing proceedure is on my 2007 model DRZ 250 motorbike


Not sure what state of "togetherness" your motor is in but, there is an inspection bolt hole on the front side of the magneto cover. Take this bolt out together with the sparkplug and remove cylinder head cover. Turn engine till a timing mark appears in the centre of the inspection hole. The piston/crank will be at TDC (top dead centre) if magneto rotor is keyed on correctly. Do not set anything on engine other than at TDC. Magneto is tightened on to crankchaft end with a locating key, this covers your spark timing.
Valve timing is achieved via the cams, place camshafts into cups at TDC (all valves will be shut) and timing marks on camshaft sprockets will line up with line on cam cup journals in the head. Camchain is fed on from opposite side as chain tensioner to ensure timing remains when tensioned. Let me know if you are "all parts on the bench" or contemplating a stripdown, I can then clarify all necessary steps.

I just rebuilt the top end on my daughters 90cc baja atv put it together set the timing and it cranks up and you can ride it for a little bit and it will start spitting and spurtting and die and then it...


Sounds like the valves are not set correctly. It is likely the intake valve is set too tight. Set the clearance at 5 to 6 thousandths. The exhaust should set at 8 to 10 thousandths. Check the timing with a timing light if you already haven't done it. If the valve clearance and ignition timing look okay, recheck the cam gear timing.

usually timing marks are on the flywheel or rotor of the alternator. Usually on the opposite side of the gear case. I think that would be the right side on your machine.

Just rebuilt bottom and top end cant fiqure out how to set timing


The ignition timing is CDI ignition, pre-set at the factory. You can't change it. The valve timing is the only timing you can do and that is done by lining up the static cam timing mark and the timing mark on the flywheel.

If you simply installed the cam chain on the gear without paying attention to the position of the crank and the position of the cam then the valves are likely not opening and closing at the correct time. Too far off and the piston can hit the valves and bend them and possibly crack the valve guides.
Check a service manual. Cam chain timing procedures will be shown in the manual.

Timing issue


Most engines are set-up so that the timing marks face each other, but not all of them. I don't know how yours is set-up, but I bet the service manual does. You should have one for any bike you own, just on general principles. And especially for times like this.... Wink
