My friend has a 2000? 4.3 that blows oil filter seals. It just started doing this.changed filter and it did it again, suspect the oil pump bypass clogged, what do you think?
i believe the engine is running too lean as if it was running too rich it would blow black smoke If it was blue smoke it is oil related eg valve stem seals, valve guides and or piston rings all of these things will create blue smoke if one of the above is worn out

Thank You, I always lube the seal before installing the filter just so it doesn't do that . ( Scunch up ) No, the problem I'm having is that the seal is being blown right out of the groove on the filter, I have not put a pressure guage on the engine yet as I will have to borrow that from one of my friends. If they don't see me copmming first. (just kidding) Thank You again, If I find the solution I will Email back . Cornbread
2000 awd astro 4.3 blowing out oil filter seal. Gage on dash did indicate that the oil pressure was high and varied for 40 - 80 Lbs. and did this at warm up idle. Is it possible that there would be a bypass of some kind that would have failed at the oil pump?
