Rear deraileur won't shift to lower (more speed/revolution) cogs.

First, some terminology - the small cogs in the back are the higher gears. They will take you farther per pedal revolution, but not necessarily faster, as it's hard to pedal the high gears as fast.

As far as your problem there are multiple causes. The most common is friction in the shift cable. The rear derailleur shifts to the small cogs with spring pressure when you move the shift lever. It won't move well if the cable is binding. The second commone cause is the derailleur being bent inward from the bike falling on the right side. That will also cause the derailleur to move too far when shifting to the large cog in the rear - a very expensive problem if it goes into the spokes. The least common problem is misadjustment. ALL of the fixes must be done properly. The best option if available is to get help at a bike co-op or from a knowledgable friend. Otherwise take it to a shop for diagnosis and repair.

Why does my car shifts hard in the lower gears?

If the fluid is clean and full, you probably have a more serious internal problem. This particular car has a known problem with transmission failures. Read the info at the following link.

Gear shift cable or wire broke, shift gear is very loose and will not go into any gear

you will need new shift cables, I'm sure your dealer will have them in stock. its a common problem, but its not a job I would have you do unless you are mehanically inclined and have the tools to do it.

2001 Yukon XL SLT 4 speed Auto Transmission shift problem!

Sam,

I would start with a transmission fliud and filter service.

I would then have the trasnmission checked out by a transmission shop. The transmission most of the time has the direct drum band is starting to go. The shops can rebuild it no problem, This is a very common failure wiith the trasnmission.

Good Luck

tommy, i dont recall that being a common problem with that bike, if you bought the bike used the last owner may have been speed shifting it some call it power shifting, you may have to have cases split in order to fix problem. when you say slips out can you still up shift to next gear.
