Harley leaking oil

You may have too much oil in the system OR you may have a problem with worn/leaky compression rings OR the breather system may be plugged up in the rocker boxes OR the air filter may be plugged. There could be other problems but they would be hard to diagnose without having the bike for testing etc. Check the air cleaner first, then do a hot compression test and then a cylinder leak down test which will only diagnose the rings and top[ of the cylibder etc and will not show any cylinder damage below TDC

Oil dripping from air filter

Hi Anonymous, oil leaking from your air cleaner is caused by oil carryover from the engine. For what ever reason the breather system is not seperating enough oil mist and air from the piston downstroke. There are cheap and quick easy fixes and there are more exspensive ones. Start by trying the following:
1. Run your oil level half way between the add and full mark when hot.
2. Run oil breather lines from head into a TEE fitting below carb/induction module then a single line into a mini filter under frame.
3. Purchase Arlen Ness Super Sucker.
4. Replace umbrella valves and realign oil pump
5. Upgrade oil pump and cam plate
Good luck

Dyna wide glide back fire throw air cieaner

Hi Anonymous, popping, coughing, spitting, or backfiring through the carburator or induction module can be caused by air getting sucked in combustion chamber do bad intake seals leaking. Leaking exhaust gaskets can also be suspect. Remove air cleaner and backing plate, while engine is idling spray WD-40 or Brake Kleen around intake manifold to head area, if RPM's increase you have an intake leak and seals need to be replaced, also spark plugs will be burning whiter than normal. Good luck

My 2006 Yamaha 1700 had a Speed box added to it, one step is the size of the air cleaner box is larger. After the Speed box was added and I took the bike in for an oil change, the mechanic found the bike...

theres not supposed to be oil in the air box lol or near it. you should call the mechanic and tell him ASAP. otherwise you need to find out exactly where the leaks coming out of..

Have oil coming out of the air filter

You may be running too high an oil level. If the problem persists, unplug the breather hose from the air cleaner and route it down so the oil goes to the ground, better yet (and too avoid getting leaked oil on your back tire) buy a small filter and attach it to the end of the breather hose. Most likely the engine oil level is too high though.

Oil leak from air cleaner area

Hello bpowell456....this is more or less a generic problem on the harley.... an over filled oil tank will make it puke oil from the intake and a sticky check ball valve will cause it also...this ball type valve allows oil to drain back ...very common after sitting a while|
Good luck ...hope this helps
