Excessive road noise

I have just bought a 2008 CR-V 2.4 A/T. It has Dunlop All Terrain Tyres and the road noise coming from the tyres is deafening to say the least. At first I though that something must be horribly wrong, but could not find any issue. The tyres are brand new, remain cold after 100km of road driving. The car has had full inspection, all is in order. Are the tyres the problem? Is the cabin noise normally high in the CR-V? I would think that all Honda's are really well built and quite inside.

New cars have rubber sunspension bushes that absorbe a lot of road noise. Check to see if someone hasn't replaced the suspension points with neoprene bushing. This is a hard plastic that will not absorb the road noise. The other part of your problem will be the tread pattern of the tyres as they are designed for off road use but will howl on sealed surfaces. Experiment with tyre pressures as a few pound up or down may make a difference. Talk to a tyre dealer for advice on this

SOURCE: Honda Dies While Driving

The two most common problem with these Honda's are the distributor and the "main relay"(this control the injector and fuel pump. Most of the time with a distributor problem you would get the problem that you have described. So in my opinion its a distributor, can be replace very easily. SOURCE: engine dies while driving

Start your car and shake your key while on and car parked, does your engine die?? When the vehicle stalls while in motion does your speedometer go to zero?? are some of the lights on the instrument panel not lit when the vehicle stalls?? If yes is the answer to any of these questions, its a possible faulty ignition switch!! The switch's internal contacts are severely corroded or arched. Therefore intermitted power failure to vital engine electrical components cause engine shutdown while in operation. The problem usually increases in Hotter weather. As for your tires, they may cause this due to increased road vibration causing the switch to fail more frequently. Call your local honda dealer with your VIN# at hand for info on this recall and if your vehicle has been repaired!! They may repair it for free. If not, the switches range from $45-$95. Hopefully this helps

One or both of two issues, get it looked at for possible axle shaft bad, or a wheel bearing. Get it looked at before it gets real bad.

SOURCE: my 2007 honda cr-v has a bad viabration at about

Hi.

First make sure that balancing and alignment have been done properly (for th rear tires as well). That is the most common reason for the problem. If that is not the problem it is usually either a defective CV joint failing at about 40mph, or a problem with the propeller shaft that links transfer case to differential. This last case is common with CR-V. Here a clip showing the problem:

Is there anything which will cut down road noise on 2012 Hyundai Tucson

I have just skimmed a road test report that claimed the car is exceptionally quiet on the road...

By now the tyres might have been changed from the original specification - some tyres are very noisy and assuming the wheel bearings, etc. are ok the tyres are the most likely culprit. SUV tyres are expensive and good ones are very expensive so maybe the tyres are now not such high quality or are off-road or combination tyres rather than road tyres...
That is something to check and if it isn't a matching set of four, that can increase noise too. Ensuring the wheel alignment is correct is important for smooth and quiet running and of course the tyre pressures must also be correct.

Check the door seals and ensure all the doors and tailgate fit properly and are correctly adjusted and ensure all the body plugs are fitted and similarly any grommets and gaiters.

How to decrease road noise within ccar

Road noise can be caused by many factors. But usually this is to do with the tyres. Cheap tyres often sound louder. The wider the tyre the louder the noise also. You could apply sound dampening material under the carpets and behind the door cards and in the boot.

Humming noise at 80kph at rear, would worn spring bushes cause this

unlikely--- humming noise is from a vibration caused by failing drive line joints , bearing failures, out of balance drive shafts , failing rear engine mounts, worn slip joints, worn output shaft bush in the transmission housing
it can also be from bad tyres or tyres with a regular tyre pattern in the tread
To understand this you have to closely inspect the tread pattern of tyres and you will see that the pattern is not consistent around the tyre as that consistency is what gives a noise ( example is the old bar tread tyre and the road hum that was produced on hard surface roads)

Tracking off when i drive

Hydroplaning is caused by the tyres not having the ability to get rid of water between the tyre and road, low tread depth, excessive speed in wet conditions, this will make the steering feel very vague. If your unsure of the steering, you need to take it for an alignment check. Get some decent tyres on the steering wheels at least.

Kia 2014 sorento has high road noise. how to reduce.

High road noise comes from over inflated tyres---tyre tread pattern---tyre construction (ply rating). It comes from hard insulators in the suspension pivots(rubber/ plastic bushes )If the shock absorbers are worn or seizing up the extra noise is transferred to the body You have the year as 2014 but I suspect you meant 2004 in which case the rubber bushes may need replacing as the insulating qualities would be lost due to age.
