Breakers keep kicking off when starting 2000 Harley Sport XLHC

Every time I try to start my 2000 Harley Sportster 1200 XLHC the breakers kick. Happened all of a sudden after refueling bike on a trip. Any way to simply troubleshoot this issue (Ignition Switch, Relay, Starter)? Also is there any place online where I can get the schematics for this model? I have had no luck finding it. Thanx.

Battery connections have been the leading cause of what you've described. Turn the key, everythings in order, then contact! Instead of potato potato, it's just "click" and lights out. If this sounds familiar, check that battery is tight. Grounds are netorius for coming loose due to sporty vibrations.

I had to replace the ramp hub and adjuster screw in the clutch on my 2000 sportster 1200 and am interested in finding a pic or diagram on it to make sure i done it right?

Try this site. sportster-1200-sport-xl1200s/o/m18660#sch625756">http://www.bikebandit.com/2002-harley-davidson-sportster-1200-sport-xl1200s/o/m18660#sch625756

If I can describe this, there is a steel plate in the primary cover that has three "holes" in it. In each hole there is a steel ball. The movable plate goes on with the "holes" in it facing the steel balls. Then, there is a snap ring that holds the movable plate on. There is a link that connects the cable end to the movable plate.

Hope this helps.

1996 harley 883 headlight flickers off real quick every minute or so with a clicking sound and my front and rear blinkers are dead. I turned it off and pulled out the key and it still made the clicking...

You have a short in your electrical system somewhere that is causing your circuit breaker to trip. Harley uses automatic reset circuit breakers rather than fuses. If you get a short in your system somewhere, the current though the circuit breaker will cause it to trip. After a minute or so, the circuit breaker's bi-metal strip inside will cool and the circuit breaker will reset. If the short circuit still exist, the breaker will again trip.

To help find the source of the problem, you must determine which circuit breaker is tripping. In this case it sounds like the "lights" circuit breaker. Since your turn signals are on that circuit and they are not working, I'd start there to look for the reason.

When you turned off the key and it made the clicking noise again, this was probably the circuit breaker resetting itself after you removed the voltage and current flow through it by turning the switch off.

None of the lights work, headlight and turn signals. Dash lights

The circuit breakers on your bike are under the seat- if you have an ohm-meter handy, pull them out one at a time and check them for continuity. If they all check good (meaning reading as a short across the terminals) the problem is elsewhere, and will need to be traced out. If you find a bad breaker that will not reset on it's own, replace it and try your lights again. If they come on momentarily then go out again- or they don't turn on, and you find a tripped breaker again, the problem is almost for sure a hot wire touching the frame, and will turn into a weekend project. Please let me know if this helps!

Trouble with wiring

It sounds like the ignition switch might be bad. Test the ignition switch for power to the ignition side.
