Question about 2006 Aprilia Leonardo 300

1 Answer

Hard to start from cold

Hi My Leonardo 150cc 1999.28k kms. Takes ages to start, but when it does, it runs well. Ticks over good. Slow runs well. Good at full thottle too. Starts first time when warm. Plug is new. I think maybe problem is with the fuel taking time to come up from tank to carb. Any sugestions as to what the trouble could would be welcome. John

Hi brownboots,

Have you tried using the choke to start it when its cold?

Secondly the air-fuel mixture may require to reset, but before you do tht after a spin , remove the plug and examine it ....it should be brownish and dry!
Also make sure the saprk plug is of the correct type per manufacturers specs.

Hope this would help.

Knight.

Hi I have Chevy cavalier 1995 it was running OK in the summer now when the cold siesan started when I live it for while or over night it takes me while to start it, what may cos that? thank you.

try by changing the coolant temperature sensor, this may be your problem. Coolant sensor problems will manifest themselves during cold starts and during the warm up period, such as hard starting, erratic idle, smoke, stalling, etc, good-day !

Hi, Its 2005 crownvic with 233000 kms

There's no quick fix for this, sorry. The transmission has had a very hard life and needs a full overhaul and is likely to need one or more of the following: new valves, solenoids, brake bands, filters, fluid. This list is not exhaustive. It's also possible that the engine requires servicing as well as the slow acceleration might not be a transmission issue.

The quickest way to get up and running again will be to fit a good quality exchange rebuilt transmission. Note the use of the words "good quality". There is no such thing as a cheap rebuilt unit. There's a good reason that they're often referred to as "reCONs".

If you choose to leave the fault then it's simply going to break down in the near future and require an expensive recovery.

When cold in mornings when back up then shift into

Every car needs a heating engine time specially when its cold, I recomend like about 5 to 10 minutes after you start engine and before you change from P to D. If you try to start the engine first time in the morning, it's cold outside and you immediately go on run you are going to have this trouble every time. Every engine has it's operational standard temperature a 5 to 10 minutes working engine, car stopped, may guaranty this standard temperature and optimal function conditions, and also keeps a longer life of your car.

Good luck

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE STICKY LASH ADJUSTER(LIFTER)..MANY MILES ON IT?HAVE YOU BEEN GOOD TO CHANGE OIL AND FILTER?TRY CHANGING THE OIL AND FILTER AND ADDING AN OIL SUPPLEMENT ..IF THIS DOESN'T WORK,YOU WILL HAVE TO ISOLATE WHICH BANK OF ENGINE NOISE IS COMING FROM,REMOVE VALVE COVER AND YOU CAN TO SEE WHICH ONE(S) ARE MAKING NOISE..PUSH DOWN ON EACH ROCKER ARM..A BAD ONE WILL BE SOFT..A GOOD ONE WILL BE HARD..NO LASH..TO REPLACE..YOU REMOVE ROCKER SHAFT BOLTS AND ROCKER SHAFTS..YOU CAN PURCHASE ONLY THE ONE(S) YOU NEED..BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE ROCKER SHAFTS..THE LIFTERS CAN FALL OUT..GET A STICKY GREASE TO HOLD THEM IN ROCKER ARMS DURING REASSEMBLY..I HOPE THIS HELPS
