Question about 1999 kawasaki VN 1500 Vulcan Classic

1 Answer

Battery life I have had 3 batteries within this year on my Kawasaki Mule 2510.  A neighbor says there is not an alternator on this vehicle but there is something that is the equivalent of an alternator.  Can you give me the name of that part and/or could there be another problem, such as a dead ground, that is the root of my problem? I am choosing the wrong product below as my product is not listed.  Again, I have a Kawasaki UTV (Mule 2510).

The part is called a stattor or statter but it should be a black box with raised lovers on it attached to out side of bike usually in the front with 2 or 3 wires coming from it to a plug then the wires going into the engine.Check the plug for fit and cleaness or Change that box if that doesn't work it's internal. take it to a dealer or independent and have repaired

I own Kawasaki G2 zx-6r the battery after a while seems to loose it's charge (it's got a new battery) it seems just fine for quite a while then looses all its power ? Can you please help me

Hi, John first perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. Meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your meter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe meter for a drop in amperage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
5. Hook up a voltmeter to the battery and start the engine, if meter falls below 9.0 volts while cranking you need to perform a proper load test on the battery and replace if necessary.
6. With the engine running at 3600 RPM, the battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
7. Unplug the voltage regulator from the alternator at crankcase by the front of the primary cover.
8. To test voltage regulator go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
9. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace the stator.
10. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace the stator.
11. With the voltmeter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace the rotor.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN THE BIKE WILL ONLY STAY RUNNING WITH THE CHOKE IN THE OPEN POSITION

Hi, Scott if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead battery and not want to start or if it starts it will idle and run poorly, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition.
1. If your battery was 3 years or older when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or better, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper load test on the battery and replace as necessary, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and replace the battery.
4. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
5. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
6. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
8. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

2015 Kawasaki mule pro fxt turn key on light and speedometer power on but no fuel pump

Hi, Jake you may still be under warranty for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Can not start, hear clicking sound in the fusebox ,the bike was in a shed for more then 3 years.

Make sure you have the proper water acid level in each cell of the battery. Then, connect your battery to a trickle charger, which is a charger that puts out 1 - 3 AMPS continuous. Leave it connected for 48 hours. Disconnect the charger and allow the battery to stabilize for about one hour. Then check your battery voltage. If it is 12VDC try and start the motor. If it is below 10.8VDC, replace the battery. Most motorcycle batteries don't have a very long shelf life, and your battery is probably no good for sitting for more than three years.

Kawasaki Mule 500 KAF 300 starter will not work below 60 degrees.

Using a lighter viscosity engine oil can make all the difference. Try something on the order of a 5W-30 for ambient temperatures of 60F or below. Of course, it could also be that your starter solenoid is in the early stages of failure. You can easily check it by using a large screwdriver to bridge the two large cable connections on the top of the solenoid. If the starter spins when you do this, then the solenoid is bad.
