I have a 7 hp. 150 psi. max craftsman professional air compresser, after using it for a while it starts smoking and oil soaks the filter after the fresh air filter. It soaks the top of the head also. Is the oil to thin ? It Runs good, what kind of oil should I be using ? The recomended sears oil dose not seam to be doing the trick, I think its to thin. I didnt over fill it, but it seams to be getting by the valves. This is the second one thats doing the same thing. Do I have a good back up under the work bench. It has a 60 gal.tank, and 240 volt motor.

the compresser motor has about 20 hrs. on it, I dont think its blow -by or rings, or valves. the first one ran for about the same amount of time and did the same thing, but it was over 1 yr. old so for 174 bucks I just bought a new compresser unit. the reason I Think its a oil problem, is they use 30 weight oil. Is that to thin? I took the head off of the first one and other than some black stuff on them feeler gauge looking valves everythlng looked fine. It runs fine, dont knock or anything, but oil seams to make its way up to the intake side of the jug, should I try some gear lube? whats the recomended oil for the crankcase?
Can you be more specific on the Model? Do you have a Model #?? "Sounds" Like you Have Internal Compressor Problems here, don't think Oil is the Problem. You are experiencing "Blow-By", Bad Piston Rings, or Valve Guides.
