Question about 1991 Suzuki GSX-R 750 M

1 Answer

Clutch not being adjustable

I have 98 gsxr 750. I put 520 conv chain and sproket kit, the chain is fine. I started it on the stand and try to compress the clutch lever and notice it was really hard. I when to put it in first with clutch being compress the rear wheel started to turn. I when back to adjust at the top at the handle bars then at the bottom. It help a little but still the rear wheel would turn. I'm going to replace the cable and see if that would work. Then change the oil. The clutch never seem to slip prior to the chain upgrade. Is that my clutch is going out. Need some advice to resolve the problem.

On the left side of the motor where the front sprocket goes it is just a cover and the clutch cable attaches to a lever. When i put this cover on it just slips on that is it. the clutches its self are on the right side of the motor.

Changing the sprockets & chain shouldn't have changed the clutch. Pull things back apart far enough to make sure you didn't get something in the way of the clutch plate free play.

Have you checked the side stand switch is in the up position, and the plunger is not sticking , you hav e pulled in the clutch lever , checked the wires have not come of the clutch safety switch, at the solenoide jump the two thick wires with some insulated pliers, this will put power direct to the starter and it should turn the engine over and start, if the imobiliser if fitted is not holding it off, this will then rule out a problem with the starter motor and solenoide circuit.

Popping noise coming from front sprocket when wheel is turned on 01 suzuki gsxr 600

hi it sounds like your front sproket is really worn and hooked when you turn the chain its not releasing the links smoothly ,replace it with a new one and check the condition of your chain it may be worth replacing a complete chain and sproket set as running a bike with a worn front sproket could lead to a back wheel locking up at speed if the chain jams

Sounds like you have lost something in your primary. If you lost say the primary chain, the starter wouldn't work nor could you push start the bike. In other words, you cannot get the engine to turn over. I'd pull the primary cover off and have a look in there. Those bikes were notorious for the engine sprocket nut coming loose.

Drain the oil out of the primay by removing the drain plug underneath the primary. While you're under the primary, loosen the lock nut on the primary chain adjuster and back the adjuster out a bit. Now, remove the large round clutch adjuster access plug and remove the small spring and locknut. Remove all the bolts around the primary cover. As you remove the outer primary cover, you'll have to turn the clutch adjuster screw inwards until the cover comes free. Now the cover should be off.

If you have something wrong in the primary, it should be obvious. The chain will be loose because you have backed off on the adjuster to get the outer primary off. Look for a loose engine sprocket or something wrong with the clutch assembly. If you need anymore help, come back here to repost or contact me directly at wd4ity@bellsouth.net

There could be several reasons for this, firstly try changing you oil and filter and see if it improves. If it does then it is possible a problem with the friction plates being glazed or bent slightly. Check to see if the clutch slips. Also check other things like chain tension and sprocket wear. Whilst your there check the cussion drive rubbers for wear and loosness.

    Clutch problem or cable

I did the same upgrade with the same bike. put a 16t in front and 64t in rear, never had a problem. just more power. I did notice when the chain was to tight things werent working right. gave the chain a little slack and the bike performs great. you might want to remove the front sprocket cover and check if the end of the clutch cable is installed properly. Hope this helps!
