My 2001 Pontiac montana is leaking coolant when it cool of. Its dripping from the transmition passenger side. I croled underneath and found that the coolant is leaking from the pass side of the engine behind timing chain cover. Any idea what this might be.

Probably a gasket that seals coolant behind cover. I don't remember if there is a freeze plug there.
sometimes a head gasket leak can do the same but not very common.

SOURCE: Heater core?

yes the heater core is blown you can bypass the heater core on these vehicles fairly easily find the two hoses going from the motor to the firewall unhook them from the firewall get a radiator flush kit from walmart or any other place autozone advance etc. use the corresponding tube size and clamp the two together this will work to get you where you need to go you will not have heat in the vehicle but its summer this buys you time because the heater core on that car is difficult to get out not impossible mind you difficult the part is cheap as things go the labor will kill you in cost you may want to try it yourself get a haynes manual from the parts store read through the section on the heater core twice take a deep breath and go for it.....oh after you bypass the heater core check the system for excessive preassure when first cranked because usually they dont just go out also it probably time for an intake manifold gasket they will use water these cars are super easy to work on up top with a manual parts are affordable let me know if I can help further

sending unit or float in gas tank, check if any broken wires or well plugged in and then check the float for the gas.

SOURCE: My 04 grand prix is leaking coolant. It was first

I had the same problem. The leak was from the block heater.I did not notice any leaks on the ground, but was always low on anti freeze. The block heater came apart on the highway and blew all the fluid out of the car, luckly i shut the car off and had it towed to the shop. They replaced the block heater with a rubber frost plug to get me back on the road.Have your block heater checked, they maybe your problem has well.

My 2001 Pontiac Montana is leaking coolant. It's dripping down between the oil drain plug and the transaxle fluid pan. I can't see where exactly it is coming from. I've checked the water pump, radiato

Any where back there is a head gasket leak, unless it is at the very front of the engine(passenger side). Then it could be the timing chain cover. Use a mirror and bright light, You can find it.

2006 pontiac grand prix smells antifreeze in car

Is there coolant leaking inside the car? Check the floor under the passenger side dashboard. If the carpet is wet your heater core is leaking.

If the floor is dry check the coolant elbows going from the block into the automatic belt tensioner. That's inside the engine compartment. They are notorious for leaking. You may not be able to see the leak because it drips onto the block and evaporates. That's what the smell may be.

Search google images for "3800 series 3 coolant elbow" to see the part I am talking about.

The only way to find a coolant leak is to pressurize the cooling system. You can rent a coolant pressure tester from an auto supply store. Pressurize the system and look for leaks. You may have a leaking water pump.

The elbows can be purchased from the dealer. The water pump you can get from an auto supplier. Might as well change the thermostat while you are doing the other repair. Drain the cooling system and refill with fresh dex coolant.

Make sure you bleed all of the air out of the system or the car will overheat.

1997 grand am is dripping coolant down passenger side of engine and running off a arms underneath the car. would this be from bad thermostat

The thermostat is an internal part so it can't leak like this. Usually leaks are hoses, radiators or water pumps. You need to narrow down where the leak is. Just turn the engine on and watch you will see where it is leaking from. Once you can narrow that down and describe it then it is easy to describe the fix ie replace a hose or just tighten a hose clamp.

Heateer core leak

yes you can take the 2 hoses going to the heater core and join the 2 together under the hood so that coolant flows thru the hoses but not thru the heater core
