1990 Ford f250 Diesel dies at idle.

Truck will be idling, it will miss a couple of times then die.
After cranking it for 45 second or more it will start to fire then start and run fine for a minute or two. It will then miss and die. If you power the throttle when it starts to miss it will usually stay running.
When it dies it acts just like it ran out of fuel. Both fuel tanks are 3/4 to full.

Could be bad glow plugs or plug heaters, faulty wiring to the coil, vacuum leak.

Clean the throttle body and idle air control motor(IAC) on the side of it. Mostly the IAC and the hole it sets in. Also check the air filter.

83 f250 with 460. will start and idle for 5-10

What a great truck I've had two, one I drove around in mexico for 6 months. You need to change the fuel filter. It is located under the truck on the fuel line coming from tank about even with the seat. You need a wrench set. Make sure you have the arrow on the new filter going the proper way, toward the motor. Good luck, thats a tough truck

Could be many things, Check the EGR valve and make sure its not stuck open, Oil pressure low is probably due to rough idle or low RPM. Also may have restricted cat converter.

Gas or diesel having same problem, I'd start there to confirm fuel pressure . It may be pump running partially when cool, but when it heats up (the pump) it may be cutting out pressure wise. Not uncommon for a fuel pump to pump good when cold, then die once pump heats up from running. Still makes noise, but isn't supplying any or enough pressure.

Those Fords Have Problems With The IAC(Idle Air Control Valve) On Top Of Intake By Throttle Body. It Might Even Be Making Some Weird Noises? If Not Check Timing, And Fuel Preasure.....Check For Vacumme Leaks. Good Luck

Have you checked your glow plugs? There are a number of additives you can use. Go to Amsoil.com and try some cold start. I sell this stuff and alot of other things for diesels. I invested in a small code reader from my local auto parts store to help me diagnose my truck.

tighten all fuel connections from filter to injector pump to injectors because if air is allowed in (between pressure pulses) then power loss will occur.
