Question about Motorcycles
Hello I have a 2004 Honda VTX 1300C, my motorcycle is popping and crackling. When I roll on the throttle it starts popping more and acts like it wants to die, when I decelerate it pops and backfires. I had some after market Cobra pipes put on and added a Dynojet jet kit also. Can you help me with this problem???
You might consider the fuel mixture being too rich and that excess gas is getting into the exhaust and exploding there; it could also be that the exhaust valves in your engine are not closing all the way and excess gas is pouring into the exhaust, last is timing...if it is off, the exhaust valve will be off cycle too and might do the same thing...Check it out!

May be running too lean or too rich. Check the color of your plugs, black dry and sooty means they are rich, white with blisters lean.

try with the choke on and see if it gets better or worse, will help you work out if it is lean or rich.
popping on decel can also be loose exhaust clamps or gaskets

The jet kits do not come with slow/idle jets. They only come with main jets and needles/springs. You need to order slow jets in size 48, stock are size 42. Also, if you installed a dynojet kit, which the cobra kit is dynojet, the best jetting that I have found for the setup you have is 165 front 170 rear with the 48 slow jets, also add a k&n filter and you will be excited the next time you ride. One other thing, don't buy the dynojet slow jets, get the factory kein jets. Hope this helps. I forgot to mention, the popping is in the slow circuit, that is why I recommend upping your slow jet to a 48, this will take care of your problem
