Question about 2005 Ducati 749 Dark
I have a 2005 Ducati 749s Dark and the fuel pump will only kick on on start up every now and then. I've read several post of people having this same issue and I'm thinking it has something to do with the security system on the bike! It's become a nightmare!! It's been to the shop twice and still not fixed! Ducati should have a recall for this problem since so many people are having the same issue! Any advice???

Strip and clean carbs, I had the same problem and that's how I fixed it. Take the carb to bits then soak all the bits in clean petrol (or prpsi believe it or not) for 1/2 an hour.

Your fuel pump is vacuum operated, I would look for a crack in the rubber somewhere. Also, the side stand, the bike will start with it down, but will shut off the second you put it in gear. I have a 2002 S4.

Testimonial: "sidest. switch OK. Short wiring pump doesn't make it run! Emptied tank, found a loose part with o-ring seal on the bottom. Dealer tomorrow "
That is not the fuel pump you hear, the pump is vacuum and the noise you hear is the ignition coming to life. Don't use any additives in your fuel, bad news, and just use the choke only, twisting the throttle does nothing till the engine starts. The choke is a slow speed jet. There is no way to check the air filter without pulling the seat and lifting the tank. But I have never found mine dirty, and I live on a dirt road. I call it the multistrada. 02 ,S4. Are you burning high test? 92 octane? How about keeping it warm or under cover? I think the fuel problem might be the dampness, humidity, etc, How about them spark plugs? Check them lately? I switched to autolites, they work a lot better than the champions. Hope this helps.
