SOURCE: I have just got a 2005 883 hd sportster please

The drain hose attaches to the frame at the bottom rear. Make sure the bike is at running temp before draining the oil. I use 20-50 mobile 1 full syn, 3 quarts. You must put 4 ozs in the filter to prime the system. After you drain the oil make sure you look in the oil tank before you refill it there is a tendency not to drain all of the old oil. If it dosen't all drain use a turkey baster to **** out as much of the old oil as you can. When you refill the tank you want the oil to come about midway between the lines on the dip stick. If you fill it to the top line you will get a lot of blow by out of your air filter.

SOURCE: where is the oil plug on a 2001 harley davidson

There is a hose between the down tubes at he rear of the frame that looks is attached to the frame, it looks like it is sending fluid into the frame. It isn't, it is a nibble to attach the drain line to.

2005 harley sportster 1200 oil type

Hi Anonymous, depends on the average temperature you expect to be riding in untill your next oil change. Contact your local dealer for advice. HD makes several different grades of oil. If you elect to run HD 20w50 SYN 3, which I highly recomend, then it does not matter what temperature you are going to ride in. As an added bonus they call it SYN 3 because you can run 20w50 in your engine, transmission and primary and it comes in a single container to change all 3. No longer do have to purchase 3 different types of oil for your Harley. Great stuff

How to drain engine crankcase oil 2004 1200 sportster

Run the bike to get it to normal operating temperature. Put an thin oil pan on the ground under the center of the engine. Look for the little rubber hose coming from the bottom of the bike with a plastic plug in it and held in the hose with a clamp. Loosen the clamp and save to reuse if it is the screw type. Then pull the plug out and open up the oil fill cap on right side by the seat.

2004 1200 XLR WHERES OIL PLUG AND TRANS PLUG

Damon, on the bottom the drain hose has a plug. Remove the plug to drain ENGINE oil. When done draining (takes a long time as it drains slowly), put the plug back in and add oil to the oil tank on right side of the bike (don't forget to change the oil filter too). Transmission/chaincase/clutch oil is drained by removing the plug from the bottom of the tranny case. Adding tranny oil is done through the clutch inspection cover or chain inspection cover on the left side of the bike using a funnel with a hose attached (sold in aoutoparts stores everywhere). Tranny oil and engine oil are not the same! I would use Sportrans or HD tranny oil for that instead of 20W50 in the tranny. Add no more than 28 oz. If you add the whole quart (32 oz) you will have hard time finding neutral as the case will be over-filled. If you take the clutch inspection cover (a.k.a. derby cover) off, make sure the bike is not leaning on the kick stand but is upright or the proper amount of oil in the tranny will spill out. I put a brick under the kick stand and it centers the bike pretty well.

Good luck!
