SOURCE: oil blowing out of trans breather tube

hi 81 yamaha i am concerned about the fuel smell coming out with the oil. could be the carbs flooding filling your crankcase with fuel? if not it sounds like you have blow by which would cause your crank case to be slightly pressured. this is caused by worn piston rings. do not plug your crank vent. if you leave your vent open install small filter to stop dirt from entering jim

Oil is spraying out of crank case and smells like gas just intalled pod filters.

Hi, Cory for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. My 1982 yamaha seca 650 has too much oil pressure I just bought it and it is blowing the oil cap off the person that I bought it from drilled holes in the cap now it sprayes oil out of the holes any idea...

There should be an oil breather tube on the left side of the engine leading the airbox. Make sure it's there and cleared out. If the previous owner removed the air box and put on pod air filters, he may have plugged the breather line.

Also, check your oil level. Use the sight glass - only when the engine is off and the bike is level on the center stand. The sight glass is on the clutch cover - right side, bottom of the engine. There is a mark on the glass showing the correct level.

Just got a 1982 yamaha xj 650, where do I check the oil?

There is a sight glass on the right side below the clutch housing. Put the bike on it's maintenance stand and look at the sight glass, there is two marks that the level will fall between. Do not overfill as it will blow out the air box and clog your air filter.

Where is the oil filter on a 1984 yamaha xj 650

The filter is inside a housing at the front of the engine, low down in the centre, between the centre two exhaust pipes. it is held on by one large central bolt. I think there is a locating lug at the bottom that you will need to line up when you refit the cover.

1981 650 poor excelleration

not enough to go on, but these were not slow bikes. try plugs, mucky carbs, carb jets, air filter.... take out plugs, any dirty black while others are clean or white? start bike from cold, run very short while and turn off. carefully feel exhaust pipes at top, are thay all same temp? one or two not getting warm? watch you don't burn your hands....will tell you if all cyliders firing ok.
