#1 Use only Mettler or Gutermann thread. Coats thread is very rough and will pucker the fabric. #2 Make sure that the tensions are balanced. #3 Use the regular zig zag foot. #4 Use a new needle, universal, size 80/12. A blunted point will pucker the fabric.

Use a magnifying glass to see if the little hook in the needle threader is bent so that it is not going through the eye of the needle. You might be able to gently bend it back with tweezers.

Make sure that your needle is in the upper most position when you try and the presser foot is down.

Likely the problem is a blown fuse in the S-Print (power supply). You must have a grounding wrist strap when working with a Bernina Activa. They are extremely sensitive and can easily destroy the main circuit board if you don't use a wrist strap. You can get one at Radio Shack for less than $5. The power supply is the square 1/3 of the machine on the back on the handwheel side. You can remove the power supply by removing the long torx screw on the rear of the machine and tilting out enough to unplug the connector. Then dismantle the power supply until you can get to the fuse. Test the fuse with a continuity tester. If the fuse is blown, buy an exact fuse. Don not deviate. If the fuse is not blown, you may need a new power supply.

You can check whether the alignment/timing has been affected fairly simply, as follows: Put a new needle in. Adjust the position of the needle fully to the left and try a straight sew-off ... if this works OK, but not when the needle is at centre, the timing is probably out. Drop the bobbin door and take the bobbin/bobbin case out. Turn the handwheel until the needle goes down into the stitch plate and just starts to come back up ... stop there. Carefully push the needle/needle-bar all the way to the right, so that the needle is nearly against the right-hand side of the slot in the stitch-plate. Lean the machine slightly back so that you can see clearly into the hook/shuttle area through the bobbin door. Release the hook/shuttle retainer by pressing the metal lever to the top-left side of the bobbin door. The black plastic hook/shuttle retainer should pop-open and you can carefully drop it down on its hinge to rest on the bobbin door. You can now see the hook/shuttle in its hook race and the pointed part of the hook should be to the left of the needle. Now, slowly rotate the handwheel so that the point of the hook continues to rotate clockwise until it just passes behind the needle. Look very carefully - the point of the hook/shuttle should be just above the top of the thread hole in the needle .... if it's below, or significantly above, the timing on your machine has been thrown-out by the needle breakage and will have to be professionally adjusted.

Lets start at square-one. Have you checked the plug fuse ? Have you checked that the 2-pin mains plug is firmly inserted into the socket on the back of the machine ?
If yes to the above ... are there any lights on at all ... sewing light, display backlight ?
If it's completely dead, it's most likely the power supply 'L'-print which is a separate module screwed into the back of the machine below the spool holders. Your best bet is to get the machine checked-out by a Bernina service agent.
