Ongoing problem. My V-Star 1100 Classic has plenty of power in the battery but when you try to engage the starter the darn bike just clicks (at a relay under the seat.) It is an "on again, off again" problem and right now it is "on again."

    Hi ,

Per your explanation ...the starter works but the engine doesnt rotate?

Was this bike parked for a very long time?

    need a bit more info.

starter is turning, but is it cranking the engine? is fuel fresh and tank full? is petcock on? is choke on? can you see gas in the fuel filter? do you see any fluids leaking onto the floor while trying to start it?

Bike won't start but has a tic tic tic sound

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Bank angle sensor tripped and ignition/light key switch not cycled to the "OFF" position and then back to the "ON" position.
5. Faulty starter button/switch.
6. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
7. Security alarm needs a reset.
8. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
9. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
10. Electric starter shaft pinion gear is not engaging or over-running starter clutch slipping.

My 2007 yamaha vstar 1100 will not start I jumped it with my car and it ran fine but would not restart. I bought a new battery but that didn't fix the problem.

Hi, Arnell the starter drive/Bendix/clutch is a mechanical gear driven component that engages the clutch pack ring gear to turn over the engine. It has an internal mechanism that allows the gear to turn in one direction and once the engine starts allows the drive gear to free spin. If gear free spins in both directions then the drive gear has failed, it is not serviceable and needs to be replaced. 2000 v star classic 1100. The engine will not turn over. Replaced battery, starter solenoid, and starter relay. The starter is good. You can jumper the starter and the bike starts right up.

Charge battery to full, start in neutral, still clicks? Bad ground, or bad connection. Jump starter solenoid with screwdriver, etc. if motor turns over the relay is bad. Chaz Moto DC

i worked for a large yamaha dealer. yes, those bikes are very well known for the starter clutch going out. it's about $85 to $125 in parts and about 1 to 1.5 hours labor. also, an oil filter relocator kit will save you money on servicing or changing your own oil.
