Question about 2000 Honda GL 1500 Aspencade Gold Wing

1 Answer

Clunking noise When I first start my recently acquired 1984 Aspencade a clunking noise becomes apparent. The noise seems to be coming from the engine. When the engine rpms are considerably increased the noise is not noticable. The clunking seems to occur when you are in neutral and you gently roll on and off. I've heard some say that on start up this is the nature of 1200's. What is your response to this very limited description?

What should the compression read when testing on a 1984 honda aspencade

155-165 psi
low 140-145 for an engine with miles on it
100-125 psi would indicate wear and needing attention
no more that 10% between cylinder readings - anything more indicates valves or gasket problems

I have acquired a used aspencade that has been sitting and when I turn on the ignition the fuel pump does not seem to be coming on

Check your fuse box, for blown fusses to the fuel pump, then check your wireing to the fuel pump and see if you are getting any voltage to it ,check with a volt meter if you are then replace the fuel pump.

My 1984 gl1200 aspincade will not start, my neutral lite will not come on.does the neutral switch in the front engine cover. if that switch is out will it stop the start botton from working

Make sure the engine kill switch in the off position ?
If the neutral switch is malfunctioning it can send a wrong signal which should be countered by pulling the clutch.

1984 aspencade starts w/choke and revs up, runs smooth. Take off

My 'wing won't run unless it has been warmed up some. I would suggest that you r&r your carbs to make sure the jets in the bottom are working correctly. They tend to get plugged up, especially after sitting & the aluminum flaking off inside... Rick
