Hard to start then misses sputters and dies at a stop

Fresh gas, new sparkplugs but not harley davidson, cranks over and will start but must throttle it to keep it running at idle for longer then normal startup time. then on road bike engine needs more throttling then normal to maintain speed, engine misses. When come to a stop engine dies and have to restart. Could the problem be the ignition module?

Is this a "nose cone" harley?19 70s to 90s? Check centrifical advance unit,located behind breaker plate where points or ignition module are mounted.when they sit for awhile it can rust and stick,resulting in retarded timing.

if it is open loop ( O2 sensors) check the sensor condotion, connections etc.

Reload the files onto the Power Commander, insure they are the exact files for your ride, the wrong files can affect operation and gum up the O2 sensors.

not running for a year! You have a varnish buildup in the low end circuit of the carb. You will need to remove the carb and do a full teardown of the carb to properly rectify this problem. SOMETIMES we are able to free up the passages by putting SEA FOAM cleaner in the tank , fill her up with fresh fuel and ride through the tank and it will clear up. SEA FOAM can be purchased at an auto parts store and is sometimes very effective. 1/4 cup to full tank fuel.

Most fuel injected motorcycles do start up in a "fast idle" mode. Although I don't know much about fuel injection on Harleys (H-D will not tell you much about it unles you are one of their technicians), I don't think the system is equipped with an engine temp sensor. Since the crank case sensor get it's pulses from pockets cut into the outer edge of the left side flywheel half, the sensor will have oil on it.

Its your idle senser sits on top of the manifold u will see it looking at u when u take off air filter cover. Little black plastic.plug in.

A harley AGM battery are usaully good for three to five years the best thing to do is have the battery load tested.Now as far as your problem now depending on the batterys state of charge the solenoid will click or not.Because you store it alot you should keep a trickle charger on the battery

The first thing to try is putting a couple of fuel tanks of injector cleaner (properly mixed) through the injection system.

My 2007 FXDB cuts off at stops after getting hot. Restarts readily but seems to fire off really hard. Will idle fine after restart but next stop dies again.

First off I would raise the idle just a bit.

If you have been getting gasoline with 10% ethanol that could cause the slower idle that lets the engine die.

One more thing could be the gas cap is not venting to let air in. You need to be at a stop for this. Don't try it while riding.

Crack the gas cap loose just a hair so it can breathe. If that fixes the problem, get a new cap.

One thing I do every 5,000 miles that has proven beneficial. I go to the Dodge dealer and buy a bottle of carburetor/injector cleaner. Not the kind with mineral spirits, get the really good one with naphtha. I have only found naphtha one time at an auto parts store. you can try looking there if you wish but I doubt you will find it.

2003 HD Fatboy has a miss. New plugs and wires.

i take it its carb. after it warms up to operating temps does it stop the sputtering? thats just a HD CV carb doing what it does til hot. Im not talking a 2 min warm up and off u go im talking operating temps of 200 plus. Is the carb an S&S? Your going to have high rpms til the temp kicks it down if its injected
