Really do not recommend using starting fluid very often, Hard on parts. Sounds like the typical problem by thousands of bikers every spring. Todays fuel do not have the required additives to last very long in a closed system. Carb's are first to get the brunt of the problem. There are drain screws on the bottom of the carbs. Put rag's under carbs or something else to catch the fuel, and loosen the screws to drain out old fuel. If you are lucky after closing the screws, just open fuel to reserve to refill bowls. Then try to restart. Sometimes the fuel sitting in the bowl will seat the float needle and not allow the fresh fuel to enter the bowl. If after you drain the float bowl of the old fuel you might want to temporarily open the fuel valve while the screw is loose to make sure they flow fresh fuel.

1999 honda vfr 800. Had a full service done on bike all fluids filters plugs etc. Bike starts ok but as soon as i turn the throttle bike dies no fault codes standing on bike

Hi, Walter you have fuel delivery issues probably carbs I hear your gas tank is begging for a can of Sea Foam if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead and not want to start or if it starts it will idle and run poorly then stall, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition.
1. If your battery was 2-3 years old when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or better, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper load test on the battery and replace as necessary, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and the battery needs to be replaced.
4. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
5. Remove and inspect your air cleaner paper elements that are not oil soaked can be cleaned with a soft brush and low pressure compressed air, oil soaked elements must be replaced. Gause mesh and foam elements can be cleaned by soaking them in a container big enough to completely cover them with a solution of 1 gallon of water and 1 oz. of Dawn dishwashing liquid for small and medium size elements, for monster size double the formula and let soak for at least one hour then rinse with warm water shake off excess and let air dry, "WARNING" do not use compressed air as this will embed micro-sized dirt and road grime and destroy the mesh pattern and stretch foam elements out of shape just squeeze it like a sponge and let air dry, use a fan if you're in a hurry. When completely dry spray a very fine mist of air filter oil evenly around the whole element.
6. Remove the carburetors, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove, clean, and inspect fuel and vacuum lines and replace as necessary.
8. Replace spark plugs with new ones and check for spark.

Not sure what happened i started my 97 cbr600f3 ran it on choke for about 45 sec. it started to die,so i eased the choke off it died and havent been able to fire it up since.any suggestions

Remove plugs to see what colour they are. If sooty then too rich / clean / install.
If wet then flooded, dry refit.
If clean and dry, starving lack of fuel.

Starter turning slow on the first start?

check battery voltage....a good battery will read between 12.6v and 13v. how old is battery? if more than three years old and you're a seasonal rider the battery is probably suspect! Also if you live in a very cold climate and use a thicker oil.... it might also cause this.

Last time I STARTED MY VSTAR 1100 I CHOKED IT FOR 10 SECONDS ON HIGH THEN MOVED TO MEDIUM CHOKE FOR 4 THEN TOOK OFF AT NO CHOKE. 2 WEEKS LATER. I started up bike Choke on high bike barely wanted to idle...

Sounds like your flooding it out with the choke out. Try the next time you go to start the bike when it's cold with the choke out and when it starts push the choke all the way in and keep it running with the throtle. If it runs better after doing this then your flooding it on start up. Use 1/2 choke to start cold and see what it does. Good Luck

Bike dies if rpm rise above 4 or 5

Hi!

That clicking noise comes from the start-relay, that tells your battery is out of power or almost out of power, when the battery isent giving enough of power the start-relay clicks. Recharge the battery,
Now for that other thing, that your bike dies around 4-5 rpm, that can be caused by many things but i think that you will find the solution in the carbs. You told us that the bike has been standing outside for 3 years, that tells me that you carbs is in need of cleaning. Inside the carbs is a lot of smal parts that opens and closes when you hit the gas, after so long time outside some part dosent work as they should, therefore when you hit the 4-5rpm the bike dosent get the right mix of fuel and air since the carbs harsh and the bike dies.
Take the bike to a repaire shop and let them clean and calibrate the carbs and your problem will be solved.

Good luck
Nic

My 50cc mini bike starts then dies 5 secs after starting. why?

It sounds like you may have 2 problems

  • Bad gas
  • dpossible loose spark plug( bad compression)

Solution

dump out the gas put new in
Remove the spar plug and examine the plug if it is wet and black it is fouled
if it is white ad dry it is not getting gas

If you can replace the spark plug if not just clean it with a wire brush put back in and tighten

Finally make sure the spark plug wire is not lose

Best of luck to you
