Question about Motorcycles

2 Answers

My 2007 road king runs great but on occassion, when i slow to a light and come to a stop the idle drops and the bike shuts off. I immediately am able to start the bike back up right away and there are no problems. This seems to occur when I ride and only happens occassionaly. Someone said it might be my speed sensor. My speedo is also acting up and now will not show diagnostics. Would the speedo if was acting up cause the bike to shut down at a light and start back up and run until I got to another stop.

I had what sounds like the same problem, on mine the problem was the stator not putting out enough juice.

SOURCE: when riding down the road bike runs great for 10

It sound like you might have a fuel tank cap that isn't venting, if you have another key try placing it in the fiel cap and then when the bike starts to cut out pop open the cap and see if it will pick back up, if it does then you need to replce the fuel cap.

2007 Road King Classic stalls unexpectedly when driving...no sputtering, just shuts down...starts back up whether stationary or driving...but no warning about cut off

Will the bike start up without turning off? If you have to turn ignition off then on again before it will start it may be the bank angle sensor gone faulty. This will set NO error codes in memory as it is NOT a recognised fault. ECU simply thinks bike has fallen over and shuts engine down.

I have a 2001 carburated Road King, every so often the bike stops as if not getting any gas. The bike does not start after trying numerous times, but it seems after about 15 minutes the bike will start...

when was the last time you cleaned or changed the fuel filter?
sometimes it will clog from bad gas or dirt in the tank when under use, then partially clean itself from back pressure when bike is not running.
clean or change it and see if that helps

2003 HD Road King - starts fine, idle normal. Once it is warm, idles at 2000 rpm. Does not come back down, even after riding for an hour or two. Only idles normal when cold. Help??

If you bike is equipped with a carburetor, the idle stop screw is located at the top of the carb on the right side. Counterclockwise turn slows the idle speed.

If you bike is fuel injected, a dealer or shop will have to set the idle speed electronically.

Good Luck

I HAVE A 1999 ROAD KING , I HAVE A CODE 41 AN 16 WHAT ARE THEY REFERENCED TO. AND THE BIKE STILL RUNS, BUT ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHILE DRIVING BUT NOT WHEN AT IDLE

code 41 is a crank position sensor and 16 is a fluctuation in battery voltage below 8 or over 16.

If the CP sensor was bad, your bike wouldn't fire. It may be failing. Your engine light should stop coming on after about 40 cycles

WE HAVE A 2007 ROAD KING. THE COMPUTER WENT OUT

I hope you are speaking of the ECM, otherwise my advice may not be of any value. First if you have any modifications to the bike such as pipes & air cleaner, etc. then your issue would be magnified. The information in your "computer" as it relates to how the bike runs is called a MAP. The map defines idle speed, desired air fuel ratio (AFR), rev limit, monitors O2 sensor information, and much, much more. So if the MAP is say for a stock bike and yours has pipes, etc. then it will run poorly. I would call the dealer that replaced the part for you and ask if they downloaded the right MAP for your bike.
Without special equipment (i.e Screamin Eagle Race Tuner SERT) you cannot make changes yourself.
Please start with the call to the dealer and please post your results for us. Thanks and hope this helps.

Misfiring 2007 Honda VFR 800

I would say that your bike may be running a little lean. I usually replace the jets on all my bikes as soon as I get them as the emissions requirements mandate that the manufacturers pass stringent emissions tests prior to the dealer selling them. Some bikes wont even idle or run, especially off road bikes from places like California. and in these cases you must re jet it is a must! I even throw away or drill larger holes into my air cleaner cover.

Good Luck!

Won't idle down after it warms up

after the bike has warmed up, then reset the idle to approx 1000rpm. then see what happens when its cold. some bikes are cold blooded and the use of choke is necessary for a bit, at least until it warms up...
