SOURCE: Blower smoking and won't run

bad plug. even worse gas.
2 stroke oil breaks down and makes the fuel dirty after so long in the gas can. Also check your filter to assure its not got alot of leaf debris. -Jeff Anchorage Small engine repair.

SOURCE: kubota kh 91 excavator, blowing lots black smoke

If the Air filters are NOT restricted in any way and it's not skipping ( indivual cylinder problem ), check the small return line coming from the injectors going to tank for blockage. This will be a small line probably held on with a worm gear clamp. Good luck

SOURCE: exhaust blowing white grey smoke lots of it and

The white/grey smoke is steam (water). (from the cooling system)The engine has either blown a head gasket or there is a crack on the engine block.

Stop as soon as safely practical at home or wherever you will work on it.
Before you spend lots of money, try an engine block sealer, less than $15. Bar's Block Seal, for example. Read and follow directions carefully. You may need to apply twice. May also last for a couple of months or several years.

Otherwise, replace head gasket on affected side and/or replace engine (block).

SOURCE: problem with cold start and blowing smoke, runs fine after warm

Honda engines (D series imparticularly) run quite smokey on start up. For some reason condensation builds in the exhaust once it has been left (this is assuming the smoke is clearish/white) Occasionally, if it is blue smoke, you might have a leaky oil seal (typically the crank position sensor), but it's no biggy as it's only a few mls of oil per week.

There's no such thing as a tune up. Honda's are controlled by their ECU. As long as your air filter is cleaned regularly, and especially having regular oil changes 6,000miles, it should run +250k miles.

Hi, Quentin your instrument gauges and lights can alert you to most electrical and engine issues they can not warn you about failed engine gaskets or seals so your engine has to resort to old fashion alert methods of colored "SMOKE SIGNALS" here is a breakdown of their meaning:
1. COLORLESS OR SLIGHTLY BLUE SMOKE on start-up means your air/fuel mixture is at the right composition and everything is well burnt in your combustion chamber.
2. BLUE SMOKE on start-up is usually caused by failed valve seals dripping oil into the combustion chamber when the engine is not running.
3. YELLOW OR BROWNISH SMOKE at start-up means your air/fuel mixture is too lean. Too lean means that there is low fuel but high air mixture in your combustion chamber.
4. WHITE SMOKE on start-up may be caused by a blown head gasket allowing coolant to enter the combustion chamber and may start dripping out of the exhaust pipes or mufflers. Smoke while riding is usually caused by worn out or damaged valves, seals, guides, pistons, rings, or cylinder walls.
5. BLACK SMOKE on start-up is usually caused by too much fuel in the combustion chamber this can be due to air/fuel mixture adjustment too rich, accelerator pump improperly adjusted, faulty choke/enrichner or not in the off position, air filter dirty and clogged, faulty carburetor float needle and seat, pilot jet too large, fuel injectors leaking, smoke while riding is usually caused by the main jet being too large or a damaged carburetor.
It should be noted that aggressive or abnormal throttle operation will cause these conditions to manifest themselves exponentially.

1997 mazda e2000 van which is blowing black smoke

if it takes 5-10 mins of running before black smoke disappear i think you could have broken rings causing engine oil into the combustion chamber. you could observe white smoke if you have just changed oil.
solution would be to replace piston rings. it would save u a lot if u could diy.

95 Courier with Mazda diesel is hard to start, runs rough, blows lots of blue smoke and won't go over 60kph in top gear

I'd get your injectors rebuilt, and tune up your injector pump. Run a little seafoam in the diesel tank, and in the oil. Should make it clear right up.

Engine is running to too rich ie: blows a lot of smoke and some oil from exhaust

If its blowing oil out the exhaust then that is most likely where your smoke is coming from, not from running rich.
It would also help to know something about the motorcycle as they are not all created equal.

My 96 tour classic with 60,000 miles began blowing white smoke

Sounds like you have a blown set of rings or have burned a hole in the top of a piston. Do a compression check to confirm.
