3 things are needed for combustion (compression, fuel/air mixture & spark).

turn the key on. can you hear the fuel pump running to pump some fuel into the carbs? if no sound, then it might be a fuse or relay, or the fuel pump inself.

if you hear the pump clicking, then next try this. petcock on try and crank it. try for a few seconds (<10 sec) to give a start. stop cranking and immediately pull out a few of the plugs. are they wet? if they are, then fuel is making it to the cylinder(s). if dry, then no fuel to the carbs. check fuel filter & vent.

next turn to spark and see if that fixes it. don't look at the spark, but replace them. it has for me on dirt bikes and ATVs. one minute it was running, shut it down for a break and when trying to restart, nothing. changed out the spark plugs and she's back to life. never had good luck with NGK plugs.

worth looking at the air filter too. make sure you can still see light through it when holding it up to a light. and you should feel/hear a suction while trying to start it which means the passage to the carbs are clear.

take a look at the plugs themselves. is it black (like its running too rich?) or is it very white like a new plug (lean condition)? should look like light brown toast if its running right. throw in a few new plugs (properly gapped of course) if they look black and give it a try.

if nothing from above works, then go with lrandall's recommendation and check compression. you can rent one if you don't have one.

good luck.

Hello, I have a 1997 Honda cbr900rr I have a 1998-99 cdi box in garage anyone know if it will work? Spent hrs online researching and nothing convincing

Hi, Trevor your 97 CDI and the 98-99 CDI are 2 different part numbers that being said they appear to be plug and play pretty sure you won't hurt anything, however, some systems may not function properly for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. Misfires at high revs

Hi, Chris and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Spark plugs in bad condition or partially fouled.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition and leaking.
5. Spark plug gap too close or too wide.
6. Faulty ignition coil, module, and or sensor.
7. Loose, dirty, or corroded ignition module connector at crankcase.
8. Faulty CKP or CMP, MAP, ETS, ATS, TPS, O2 sensor.
9. Intake air leak.
10. Water, dirt, or rust in the fuel system, carburetor and/or filter.
11. Fuel tank vent system plugged or carburetor vent line closed off.
12. Vacuum line from intake manifold to fuel valve is broken, cracked, pinched, or missing.

14. Damaged carburetor.
15. Incorrect valve timing.

Measure the voltage of the battery.
Of and on. It should never be higher than 15V.
Had the same problem whit my cbr900rr -94.
If the voltage ( at 2500rpm) is higher than 15volts it's the reg/rec unit.
Change the regulator/rectifier unit.
Bye a new battery and the problem is solved!
