Hi Anonymous, remove the seat to access battery and the best way to recharge a battery especially one that has very low voltage or is completely dead is with a low amp trickle charger. If you are in a deep sleep would your rather be awaken with soft gentle nudges or a swift kick in the rear. Have nice day.

SOURCE: how to change oil for2007 heritage softail classic

The oil drain us usually a hose with a plug in it that is held by a clip on the frame. It us usually on the right hand side of the bike just behind and underneath the transmission side cover. Loosen the clamp and pull the plug out. The oil will run out of the tank. Replace plug and add new oil to the tank.

SOURCE: Locating the oil plug on a 2005 HD

Look at the bottom of your oil tank from the right hand side of the bike. You should see a large pipe or hose running downwards towards the rear of the transmission along the frame. At the end of this pipe is a plug. Take the plug out to drain the oil.

Good Luck

SOURCE: diagnosing starter problems with 1993 heritage

Ok, the first thing to do it take your battery to an auto parts store and ask them to "load test" the battery. Just because you charged it doesn't mean it's any good. Especially if the battery seemed to come up to full charge very quickly.

If the battery test good and all you're getting is a click out of the starter, first check all your connections to make double sure they are clean and tight. If they are, there is a five sided plate on the end of the starter's solenoid on the right side of the bike. It has three small bolts that holds it on. Remove the bolts and remove the plate. Remove the large plunger and spring. Inside, you'll see two large copper contacts. One or both of these contacts are probably pretty well burned down. One will have an "arched" looking area in it. This is where the large washer on the plunger has made repeated contacts and has burned the contact down. It is NOT supposed to be there. The copper contacts should be smooth.

You can purchase a "rebuild" kit to replace these two contacts and the plunger. Much less expensive than purchasing a starter and much less work.

Good luck
Steve

Hi, Paul if your battery is more than 4 years old it may have enough voltage but not enough amperage to start the bike I would recommend having it load tested, for more information about your issue and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the blue links below and for more specific information or questions at no charge please feel free to contact me at xlch@mail.com. Hi Derrick, and the usual suspects are:

3. Alternator not charging or below normal rates.
4. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
5. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Water or dirt in fuel system, carburetor or filter.
8. Fuel tank vent system plugged or gas cap not venting.
9. Fuel tank empty.
10. Fuel valve vacuum line broken or carburator vent line closed off.
11. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.

I just bought a new battery for my 2005 Softail Deluxe; I road yesterday (10/20 miles) as I was finishinng the run, the bike shut off; could this mean the battery was not fully charged? Will a trickle...

Good idea put it on a trickle charge, however, the battery had enough charge init to start the bike initially, and the bike should have charged the battery after 10-20 miles, worth checking the charge rate to the battery from the rectifier,

Is there a easy place to hook up battery tender on 2005 hd heritage softail other than removing the seat.

When I had my Softail, I used the battery wiring harness that came with the battery charger. It had a plug on it that could be tucked out the way, but readily available when needed.
I use the same setup on my 99 FLHT.
It looks like this....

My 05 harley night train is not turning over, it also makes a clicking noise. it is outside covered, but it has been below 20 degrees.

Charge the battery overnight and it should probably start the colder tempture will drain the battery faster. Id suggest getting a battery tender to keep it fully charged if you are keeping it out side all winter

2005 hd softail replaced battery... starts then shuts off acts like alarm system want to know proceger

It does. Often when you disconnect the battery you alarm needs re calibrated. Check your owner's manual for the proper procedure if this does not work...Hold your key fob button down for 20 seconds or so. This MAY re-sync the alarm, but not always.

I want to remove the existing battery on a 2007 harley davidson softail deluxe classic and install a new one

The battery is under the seat
Remove the seat remove anything thats in the way, undo the terminals and pull it out. Sometimes a large set of water pump pliers makes pulling the battery out easier.
