Washer does not agitate during wash cycle. Spin and drains just fine. Is there PART THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED?
When the machine drains etc the gearbox locks up and the whole unit drum box and all spins when washing the gearbox innerds move the otherway so to speak and this cuasees a washing action this sounds as if the input shaft may need replaceing but it is usually better to replace the gearbox depends on finances but to be sure get a technition in to check and quote you first this is not something you can do if you have not done it before

TURN THE PULLEY ON THE BOTTOM. ONE DIRECTION WILL CAUSE THE PULLEY TO TRAVEL UP AND RELEASE THE BRAKE, CAUSING THE TUB TO SPIN. TURN IT THE OTHER WAY AND THAT SHOULD BE YOUR AGITATION. YOU SHOULD HEAR THE TRANSMISSION CLUNK AS THE GEARING CHANGES DIRECTION TO GE THE AGITATION ARC. IF NO NOISE IS HEARD, YOU HAVE AN INTERNAL PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION.

our maytag washer will agitate, but it is veeeery loud and very rocky. It does spin and it does drain. We opened the washer and looked for the part that might be broken, but we dont know where to look?
