Speedometer Issues I recently changed the front brake pads on my '03 GSX-r. Now my speedometer and milage counter are not functioning properly. The speedo only displays 1 digit and the milage is not counting at all. Any answers?

Your sensor is out of position. It probably got bumped while removing or reinstalling the wheel. The pick up must be within a couple millimeters of the sensor, you will probably find the sensor on the inside diameter of one of your brake discs. Adjust the clearance and it will work again.

Speedometer on motorcycle quit working

Have you had the front wheel off recently?

There is a magnetic speedometer sensor at the front wheel that is easily and often broken if not aligned property. Replacing that magnetic sensor should cure it.

Also, there is a wiring harness under the speedometer. Remove the 3 bolts holding on the speedometer, and carefully lift it up and check to make sure the harness is plugged together tightly.

HOW DO U TAKE FRONT TIRE OFF? ALSO, HOW DO U CHANGE FRONT A BACK BRAKES AND PADS IF ID WANT TO DO THEM MYSELF?? THANK YOU ITS A 1999 DYNA WIDEGLIDE

To remove front tire. Raise the bike off the ground so that the front tire is just barely on the ground. Remove the large nut on the axle and loosen the two bolts on the axle clamp on the other side of the wheel. Drive the axle out. Now, roll the front tire out from under the front fender being watchful of any spacers and speedo drives that are with the front wheel. Remember which side any spacer go and mark them. Reassembly is virtually the reverse except that you may have to use a screwdriver to spread the front brake pads. Make sure you get the speedometer drive tang in the hole on the front disc if you have a mechanical speedo drive.

To change the rear brake pads, remove the two bolts that hold the rear caliper onto the caliper support bracket. Carefully lift the caliper off the bracket. Notice how the rear pads and the anti-rattle clips are positoned on the caliper support bracket. Replace old parts with new parts.

You'll need to depress the brake piston back into the caliper in order to get the caliper back on over the new pads. Use a large C-clamp or pair of slip joint pliers to depress piston back into the caliper. Use a rag or something to prevent damaging the paint on your caliper. Reinstall the caliper down over the new pads being careful not to disturb them. Replace the two bolts and torque them to 25 foot pounds. Pump the brakes back up to a full pedal by pumping the rear brake pedal up and down slowly. Check for proper operation of the brakes. Failure to properly service the brakes can cause serious injury or death.

I have a used 03 gsxr600 n the speedometer dont work?

Is it electronic or is it mechanical?

I dont know which it is but suspect it is mechanical. Id check for a broken core in the cable.

You can tell almost immediately by looking at the back of the speedo. Is there a thing you can unscrew there? If there is, unscrew it and you can tell if it is mechanical or electric.

Maybe not what you were looking for exactly but I hope it will lead you in the driection you should go.

Where is the speedometer sensor at exactly omn a gsx r 600 05 ??

it's located on the front sprocket cover held on by a 4mm allen key bolt. if yor sensor is good, there is a part called the speed rotor that could be bad. the speed rotor is the plate on top of the front sprocket that sends the signal to the speed sensor.

Speedometer not working on 2002 Suzuki Volusia VL800. Need to fix soon any suggestions? Response greatly appreciated ASAP

Hi there!

I hope i responded quickly. The speedometer needle movement is caused by the speedometer cable that runts to your front wheel's gear unit. Check for the cable that goes near the axle of your front wheel and check that its properly screwed. Put the bike on stand and spin the wheel, if it still doesnt responed. Remove the cable, unscrew it near the front wheel axle first and try spinning the small "squared wire" inside, if you still can't get any action on the speedometer. Then chances are either your speedometer cable is cut in the middle or the speedometer display is jammed (unlikely). Remove the cable from the speedometer unit and check that it is freely rotating. Oil it and put back.
Next, we need to check for the gear near the axle of your front wheel. Screw the speedometer cable to the gear unit near the axle with the other end removed from the speedometer unit. Spin the wheel and check that the inner cable is responding or spinning.. If it doesnt, then your speedometer gears are worn out. Disassemble the front wheel and bring the gear assembly to the nearest parts dealer for purchase. Normally, they don't sell a repair kit so you'll need to purchase the whole gear assembly.

whichever the case, either you purchase a speedometer cable or the gear unit. Seldom will the speedometer unit be destroyed.

pardon me for not organizing this response as you were requesting a quick solution .. so i answered as quick as i could... hehe. Hope this helps!
