You could try ajusting the throttle cable itself at the throttle, or by turning the tickover screw a quarter turn at a time or so anti-clockwise till its at the engine speed you want mate,

hi,without seeing the bike i would guess that the head gasket has failed, when this happens the compressed gasses inside the combustion chamber escape into the coolant system and presurize the coolant, the end result being coolant escaping out through the overflow as the pressure increases,i would recommend getting it looked at fairly promptly as the engine will start running poorly and possibly fail...cheers

The idle speed is not your problem, you have something stuck in the needle valve in the carbureator, or the float has gone bad. Either one will require carb. removal and cleaning.

Check your pilot jet is not blocked or try adjusting your idle screw for the idle issue and it sounds like its runing lean which can also make it idle low and rough and will cause it to pop and backfire. Dont think it has anything to do with your hot start cable that will make it run it run better if its running rich but your is doing the opposite
