Question about 1997 kawasaki ZX-9R Ninja

1 Answer

Engine missfire I have a kawasaki zx9r b4,and after 30 seconds the engine develops a missfire.I have changed the plugs and leads, fuel pump and fuel pump solenoid.I have checked the coils, cdi, fuse box and cleaned the carbs out.when setting off the bike will start to missfire,if you pull out the choke,it will go normally for about two seconds then start missing again.I have finally run out of ideas as to what this could be. oh yes and compression is well within limits. thanks

I solved the problem, there was two small vacume pipes that run under the headlight.Although the zx9 runs carbs,it still has a pressurised air box.The two vacume pipes under the headlight cause a negative pressure wave to make the bike run properly when moving. If one of the clips is missing(like in my case)the bike will miss its nads off when under load.

This sound like a crab deal for sure. when you cleaned the carbs did you take out the main and needle jets.if so carb cleaner my not work you will have to blow these jets out with with high pressure air and make sure you do all for carbs.

My VN is missfiring even when hot, checked jets & air flow! Any ideas?

Check your spark plug caps(should read 5000 ohms, higher or lower replace) At the same time put in new plugs. It is very common to foul plugs with unleaded fuel. Could be other things causing problem but these are the cheapest easiest things to start with.

Zx9r b1 coolant loss when running emulsified engine oil; headgasket or waterpump???

could be head or pump, but if no missfire or smoke from exhaust I suspect the pump seals, cheaper and easier to check and renew pump seals first then flush engine and renew oil and filter, then keep an eye on oil after that.

Missfire on kawasaki zx6r j1 after mini service, plugs oil and filter air filter, bike ticks over fine but hesitates and missfires when revved oved 5000rpm

Are all the plugs properly tightened & are all the leads on properly give them all agood firm push occasionally they can feel like they are on & besitting lose on top is the air filter element sitting correctly It may be causing an obstuction of the air intake if you have used an after market air filter it could be that it is heavier than the standard item & restricting air flow

search google for kawasaki forums. you should join one or two and ask the same question. Someone there, who has direct experience, will know if it fits or not.

I have not used my bike for 1 year. i have put new fuel in and charged the battery. she turns over but won't fire. Its a ZX9R c1 model.

Have you cleaned the carbs out? This is the #1 problem with bikes not starting after they sit for a while. Check your plugs as well as they may need changing too.
