there are several componants that need to be checked. you will need to know how to use a volt ohm meter to check the generating parts. there should be a rectifier and capacitor to check. then you need to check the field for a beak in the wire or if it is grounded. then you need to check the armature for a break in the wire. some armatures have diodes in the wiring and those need to be checked. then you need to check the outlet itself and the breaker. there are a lot of things to check.
