When does it read 100 mph ? sitting still , all the time etc.... ? The speedometer is controlled by a step motor inside the instrument cluster , step motor is controlled by a microprocessor inside instrument cluster , which get's the speed info from the PCM - engine computer over the vehicle class 2 serial data network . The VSS - vehicle speed sensor is a input to the PCM , this is what the PCM uses to calculate the vehicle speed .
The IPC displays the vehicle speed based on the vehicle speed signal from the PCM. The PCM converts the data from the vehicle speed sensor to a 4000 pulses/mile signal. The IPC uses the vehicle speed signal circuit from the PCM in order to calculate the vehicle speed. The speedometer defaults to 0 km/h (0 mph) if a malfunction in the vehicle speed signal circuit exists.
Having the vehicle hooked up to factory scan tool can take all the guess work out of a diagnoses like this .
Anon, Remove ground on battery with ign still on to drain all power...now turn ign off, attach ground press hold lap timer button the clocks will do a cycle all way round, then the bike will flash mph kph mph kph 10 times in this time when its on mph release the lap timer button, after this bike will now read mph.
Guess. Either the vehicle or the speedometer is from Canada, as is set up to run in that country. Changing it will be a really big job, as you would have to take the dash apart, I think If it were mine, I'd call a GMC dealer and ask them what it would cost to change it over. If that were too expensive for you, you might consider finding a way to add MPH numbers to the plastic speedometer cover, like little stick on plastic numbers people buy at an office supply store. Be blessed.
Hi, I think 2 things have happened. 1st, when your oil was changed, the technician did not reset the oil life back to 100%. This can be done by turning the key on, without starting the engine, consistantly push the accelerator to the floor fully, 3 times. At the last time, the oil life should reset to 100%. The other issue sounds like a different size tire may have been installed, causing the speedometer to read incorrect. A dealer should be able to reprogram the computer to accept the correct size tire, therefore making the speedometer read correctly. This should not be an issue, unless the current tire size is not accepted in the computer, at this point, you ned to change to the correct size tire, or realize you may be off on the speedometer, and accomodate for your speed accordingly. Good luck...Coop
Sadly, no. What has happened is that the tiny servo motor that moves the speedometer needle is failing. When I run into these we remove the dash assembly and send it out to be repaired, usually by a dealer although there are other companies that can do this too. Usually they replace all the servo motors and backlight bulbs during the repairs but make sure you ask if they do so just to be sure.
I just had the same problem 2004 gsxr 750. After massive troubleshooting and time I found out it was the gauge. So I then ebayed a gauge on ebay and bought on for 290 dollars. Speedo now works. I am just off on the actual speed, need to by a speedo healer.
Here are some things the book doesn't tell you: You have to completely reset the speedometer and lose your odometer to reset the MPH. Hold both buttons for 3 secs to get reset. (Remember to use the left button to walk through the setup process and use the right button to change the settings.) First set the wheel size using Ideluna's settings above on this page (right button to change the setting and left button to go to next number). Next is MPH/KPH, after wheel size setting, push left button again and km flashes. Push right button to change the setting to MI. Next is TIME. Push left button and you'll see the time. Hold down left button till 24hr appears. Push right button to change to 12hr. Then push left button to go to flashing hour. Change with right button. Then left button to go to flashing minute. Right button to change minute, hold down to change minutes fast. Now you are set up. Now the process changes, use the right button to walk through the menu and use the left button to reset. Don't push both buttons anymore unless you want to reset everything again. If you want to reset something just hold the left button down until 0. When you are in SCAN mode, push the right button to go to Time, To go back to SCAN once, hold the right button down - It will scan everything once and return to TIME. To go to ODO, push right button once, push again for DST, push again for MXS, push again for AVS, push again for TM, push again for SCAN to stay in SCAN.
i would disconnect the battery again let it sit for 15 minutes, i changed an alternator and jumped the car then started driving and that happened to me, 20 minutes of driving and the computer finally kicked in and started working again. good luck
