Question about 1996 Triumph Trident 900

1 Answer

Anyone go on a 1000 mile trip on a Trident??

I have a '96 Trident with 24,000 miles on it. It's running great. I Live in Philadelphia PA and want to go to bike week in Florida this March. Anyone have experience riding say 1000 miles in two days, Running around town, then 1000 miles back? I did it on a Yamaha 650 back in 2000 and had no problem, it had 5000 miles on it, but it was Japanese. I've been told the Trident 900 is one of the most over engineered bikes ever. I assume that means for dependability. What's the most likely problem I might have? Not counting a sore bum. I don't want to get stuck in South Carolina...

SOURCE: stuck in gear

ry useing blue LOCTITE on the pinch bolts and other fasteners to keep the shifter from vibrating loose again. I had the shift linkage vibrate loose on my Thruxton when it was new, I had to fix it on the road to get home.

SOURCE: TORS question

I think you'll be allright. When I put TORS on my bike, I found that I hardly needed any extra jetting at all. I put in slightly larger jets and I am now running fairly rich, so i would think the EFI can handle it. Give your dealer a call maybe.

SOURCE: seems like bike is running rich

The idle problem sounds like an idle adjustment. The surge may be the throttle cable, try spraying a lubricant from the top of the cable and work it back and forth to loosen and release any debris.

Transmission oil change, how often?

I recommend every 50,000 miles under normal conditions.
If you do a lot of short trips, 'stop & go', pull a trailer, or live in a hot or dusty location, change every 30,000 miles.

We bought a 35 mile radius walkie talkie and i live about 5 miles from the other walkie and it doesnt even pick up static after driving about 1/2 mile away how can i fix this

  • That is the unfortunate advertisement game of these "bubble pack" two way radios. It is very misleading to say that this radio will TX/RX so many miles. It may go 10 miles in optimal conditions. Perhaps a big open lake or hilltop to hilltop. In dense suburban areas you may get 1 mile if you both are outside. Inside buildings a half mile is about it. They are great for camping and hiking trips but not for 30 miles for sure. The more expensive 2-Way radios will serve you far better and more realistically. The quality is better and the antennas are far superior.

Engine starves for fuel after running about 50 miles or so...

Has Neon do same, I ran fuel at low level, on hot day, ran engine until it started to act up & threw a fuel pressure gauge on it. Was at approx 5 psi. Cold next morning, 48-50 psi. Always hot day about 30-40 miles into work in morning, o.k. Sit in hot sun all day & would happen 3-4 times on way home. Sit and let cool, 20 minutes or so & go again for a while. Cool day, no problem. Change pump I would.
