Question about 2004 Honda CBR 600 F(4)i
Just wondering if the ignition key has a chip or not if I can just make a regular copy or I gotta go to the dealer, thx@
Hi, Joselito the answer to this question is way above my pay grade for this situation, I would call or visit my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry.

I would be amaized if there was an easy bypass for this. I would really start looking for that key. The key, barell and ECU are matched. If you lose a key with a HIPS equiped bike you are in or a big bill as all 3 units need replacing. There is a chip in the key which is matched to a coil in the ignition which has a code embeded in the ECU. Good luck.

Keys here in the USA most likely come from Honda ... because most places (hardware store, discount store, locksmith) will not stock them ... Keys I am familiar with here don't have a electronic chip in them.
Easiest solution is replace the ignition switch, though most dealers should be able to cut you a key based on the VIN. If you replace the lock, make sure you get a couple spare keys made.
If you are really despirate ... the ignition switch is after all only a two position switch ... Off/on. Get a toggle switch and make it work (this is for people with advanced skills)

Testimonial: "Thank You for your input and suggestions. I must tell you that the reason the bike would not start with the professionally cut keys is because I had left it on the stand DOH! You have to release the stand to start the bike and as a new rider I had no idea. Thanks again and Best Regards from Sydney Australia"
