Question about 1997 Suzuki LS 650 Savage

1 Answer

Transmission noise I have a 1997 Suzuki 650 LS Savage , when you roll the bike while in gear it makes a popping noise and the final drive isn't slipping. The bike has been sitting a couple years and I was told it was fine when parked. I havn't had the bike running yet but was concerned with the noise I just posted. Any information would be gladly appreciated. Thanks; Joe

If the belt is too tight &/ or misaligned, it can make nasty squelching noises!?? I found that the cush-drive hub runs on only a single bearing, off-centred to the belts pull, which could not maintain radial/ alignment stiffness, this made all the square teeth on the belt wear to a taper, i eventually had a secondary 'outrigger' needle-roller bearing mounted on the far inside end of the cush-drive hub [this took a little specialised machining] and the new belt since, now wears true!

What type of engine oil do I use for my 1999 suzuki savage ls650

Any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate and 20w-50 for warm climate and highway driving. Do not use any oil that says Energy Conserving on the label. It will shorten the life of the wet clutch and transmission gears. Suzuki makes a reasonably priced full synthetic that will help your bike run cooler and shift easier.

Having trouble going into gear, and pops out of gear.

The bike has a bent shift fork. Expensive to repair and hard to find parts or a mechanic willing to work on a 23 year old bike. Possible parts supplier is Babbitt's. Please rate my answer. Thanks.
