Question about 2006 Honda VTX 1800 Performance Cruiser

1 Answer

How do I check the fuel filter on a 2006 honda vtx 1800

It cranks but will not start unless I spray starting fluid in the carb. Fuel pressure regulator? Where is it located? Where is the fuel filter located?

  1. Engine
    • The Honda VTX 1800 cruiser boasts a monstrous 1,795cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine, with three valves per cylinder and a nine-to-one compression ratio. It has a bore and stroke of 101 by 112 mm, making it an undersquare, or long-stroke motor, meaning it's tuned for low-end torque. With a curb weight of 800 pounds, you'll need all that low-RPM power to get off the line. The bike does not have a tachometer, so you'll have to shift the five-speed transmission by feel.
    Fuel System
    • The bike is fuel injected, with an automatic choke. Fuel injection helps the VTX 1800 ride more smoothly than carbureted V-twins. The tank carries 5.3 gallons of fuel. In reviews, the bike had an average range of 194 miles on a tank of gas.

    Performance and Handling
    • This is a massive and massively powerful motorcycle. It corners wide, and is really meant for highway cruises rather than city riding. The bike gets a remarkable 100 foot-pounds of torque at 3,000 RPM. The suspension is rough, and you will certainly feel bumps in the road. Honda, however, has put a lot of effort into minimizing engine vibration, so the gigantic V-twin won't rattle your bones the way you expect it to. The engine makes a solid, satisfying thump without chattering your teeth.

MY 2006 vtx 1800 SHUT DOWN WHILE RIDING I GO AROUND 10 -20 MILES THE BIKE JUST SHUTE DOWN EVEN ON THE INTERSTATE RIDING AROUND 80 MILES A HOUR

Hi, Joel and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a "LOAD" test if necessary, your battery may show 12.5 volts but have little or zero amps and needs to be replaced.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, stator, magneto, points/condenser ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw improperly adjusted.
10. Accelerator pump damaged or not working.
11. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
12. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
13. Fuel tank empty.
14. Fuel tank contaminated with ethanol sludge.
15. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
16. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
17. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.

I have a 2003 Honda VTX 1800 fuel injected with a "no start problem" I am getting spark but no fuel and am not sure where to start checking. I can hold a gas soaked rag over air filter inlet and it will...

This means your injectors may not be getting any gas, a bad gasoline pump, or clogged filter most likely. First check your fuel level and then your filter, pull it out and make sure is not completely clogged, if it is, replace it. but before you install the new one, place the flow gasoline hose end ---> in a small container (protect eyes) and keep your distance and have someone turn the car switch on momentarily ( just the switch, not cranking!) to see if the pump is pushing the gas into your container, if you don't get any gas on the filter flow hose that means your pump is also burned. Dealing with gasoline problems can be very dangerous, if you are not mechanically guided, have a mechanic check it for you better. good luck!

Cub Cadet has gas, has spark, has air -still won't start/run

Are you pulling the plug to check for wetness after cranking it a few times, WITHOUT using the starting fluid? Also, I would recommend using carb cleaner in place of the starting fluid. Starting fluid runs the engine VERY hot for a brief time and can possibly damage rings, valves, and aluminum parts.

No start

Have you checked or changed the fuel filter? Is this carburator or fuel inj, but either way you are not getting fuel to the carb/inj so take off the fuel line by the filter and hold it in a container and have somebody crank it over, no fuel? Follow it backwards till you reach the pump or the tank.

It seems the fuel has flooded through the carbs from sitting. it may need the carbs cleaned and new fuel in the tank, and a new air filter element, there is also a possibility fuel has made its way into the sump, so check the oil level, or change the oil if it is 2 years old.
This can all be caused by a leaking fuel tap, and the fuel getting old and leaving a residue in the tap and carbs

Sounds like the carb is dirty. I would check that before spending a lot of money of other things.

You have electronic fuel injection. The fuel pump may not be working. Check all the fuses and wire connections. Also clean the air filter.

2000 Chevy Blazer Cranks but wont start...

What about the fuel filter????? Have you changed it out??? If you can spary something like a started fluid, that means it is a fuel problem. My last check, it has to be above 50-psi on the fuel pressure to make it run right. I had 35psi, but whould not get over 30mph or down hill maybe 45mph. Check both filter & pressure, but check pressure with a New fule filter!!!!
