Hi Anonymous, I don't know what year your bike is but here is a little foot note. Evo motors minor carb adjustments. Twin cam especially late models serious performance issues. Good luck

Where is speed sensor located 2002 fatboy

Hi Anonymous, try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Remove the the bolt that secures the sensor and pull it out of the transmission. Inspect sensor for obvious damage and repace if necessary. If sensor has no damage then wipe clean any obvious contamination like micro fiberous material with a clean rag and reinstall, torque bolt to 8 ft lbs. Need to know if my bike is injected or carb ? 2004 vulkin clasic 1500

Your bike has two CV carbs. CV means Constant Velocity. The carb slides are raised and lowered by atmospheric pressure. Please rate my answer.

Maved to augusta ga from las vegas nv. my 2004 fatboy when at idle will not stay running without the choke 1/3 out

If your carb is stock, it should have a #45 slow speed jet in it for this area. I'd go to either a #48 or a #50 slow jet. I live in Forsyth, Ga. and I usually put the #48 in most Twin Cam 88 bikes that have changed the exhaust or are popping back out of the carb. If you think this is the problem try changing the jet. I don't know what the altitude is in Las Vegas and I have no idea if Harley rejets the carb for different areas. The CV carb usually is not that sensitive to altitude like the older type carbs were. The Idle Speed Stop Screw is located at the top right of the carb. Turn the inwards (clockwise) to increase the idle speed.

If you bike is fuel injected, you'lll have to take it to a shop to have this problem corrected.

Good Luck
Steve

Found a fixer upper harley that a family friend I know well is wanting to let go - 1982 HD FLT. It has aftermarket carbs and the two-into-one headers, otherwise believe it to be pretty stock. Has not been...

An 82 model Harley has the Shovelhead engine in it. These are good engines but they are aggrevating in that they are not as reliable as the later Evolution engines. I know a lot of people that have them and get good service out of them but they have to do their own work. Most Harley shops will NOT work on them. The reason is that they no longer have parts for them. You can get parts but they're aftermarket parts and sometimes don't work as they should. Most of the parts are made in Tiawan. If you find New Old Stock parts, they want a very high price for them.

If the bike has an aftermarket carb on it, it's probably an S&S Super "B" or Super "E". The original carb was a Keihen "butterfly" type carb, not the later version "CV" Keihen carb.

In short, the old shovel will give you lots of miles of riding but you must be prepared to do a bit more work on it than you would an Evo model. The old Shovels do have a good sound to them as well. It's a good bike for a person that doesn't mind getting his hands greasy every once in a while. If you don't want to do your own work, look for a good Evo or Twin Cam bike.

How do i know if i have a cv carb motor.

By the year, which in this case is 2000. The factory stopped using the butterfly type on Sportsters somewhere around 1988 I think. But they are defitnely not on the 2000 unless someone has put it on. There also should be sticker on the side of the carby telling you it is a CV and what year. If all that fails take the air cleaner off and have a look down the carby, there should be a slide inside which you can lift upwards. This works of a vaccumn when the engine is running hence the constant velocity "CV"
