Question about 2013 Honda CRF 450R

1 Answer

"brand new Honda" "won't start" "2013 CRF450R"

Walked it around back yard a few times under power. Stored at - 10 C. Would not start, so put it inside at 18 C for 3 days. Confined myself to owners manual and service manual for startup procedures. Once in a while it runs for less than 2 seconds, just long enough for the EFI light to come on.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. The fuel tank has old dead gas.
3. Fuel tank bottom contaminated with ethanol sludge, dirt, water, rust, etc.
4. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
5. Fouled spark plugs.
6. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enrichner.
7. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
8. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
9. Fuel line to carburetor or throttle body pinched, kinked or blocked.
10. Carburetor float stuck.
11. Fuel injectors clogged.
12. Fuel injectors stuck open.
13. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a cursory reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
14. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
15. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil or plug between ignition sensor and ECM module.
16. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting check for spark leakage in the dark, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
17. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty ignition coil, ignition module or MAP, CMP, CKP, O2, TPS, ETP, IAC sensors.
18. Faulty neutral, clutch lever, or kickstand safety switch.
19. Faulty fuel pump or fuse or relay.
20. A stuck bent or burnt valve.
21. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
22. Security system not disarming alarm needs a reset.
23. Check for engine trouble codes.

better check for the ignition coil for proper sparking or igniting of current in the comprssion chamber, check the ignition coil spark plug wire, check the spark plug, check for proper fuel supply in the flow system to Carbs, check for Ignition timing of the bike, or still you cant solve or still worried then dont worry better take the bike to nearest aurhorised Suzuki service centre for better assistance on this problem surely the problem will be solved.

I would say that your bike may be running a little lean. I usually replace the jets on all my bikes as soon as I get them as the emissions requirements mandate that the manufacturers pass stringent emissions tests prior to the dealer selling them. Some bikes wont even idle or run, especially off road bikes from places like California. and in these cases you must re jet it is a must! I even throw away or drill larger holes into my air cleaner cover.

Good Luck!

2010 Honda CRF450R wont start after running out of petrol

Hi, Anonymous if you have an old bike that has not had regular fuel system maintenance and you run the fuel tank dry I feel your pain. All the contaminants water-dirt-rust-liner paint flakes-ethanol sludge etc. that lived in the bottom of your fuel tank get mixed with the last few oz. of fuel left in the tank and enter the fuel system clogging up fuel filters-fuel valves-fuel lines-carburetor jets-needle jets and seats-fuel injectors etc. You fill up your fuel tank and guess what your bike does not start or if it does it runs like dog caca, a complete cleaning of the fuel system is mandatory, the procedure is as follows:
1. Drain the fuel tank and inspect the inside for leftover uninvited guests decontaminate as necessary for rusty environments install a liquid Fuel Liner.
2. In tank fuel pumps with external filters need to be cleaned.
3. Fuel valves need to be rebuilt with a new gasket kit.
4. Fuel lines need to be inspected for integrity and replaced as necessary any inline fuel filter should be cleaned or replaced.
5. Carburetors need to be disassembled then "DIPPED" and soaked in a commercial carb cleaning solution Gunk sells 1/2 gallon pails with meshed screen baskets. Reassemble using new rebuild kits. Record all jet sizes and float level for fine tuning.
6. Fuel injectors and fuel rails need to be properly cleaned and tested for optimum performance, if necessary send off any suspect injectors to "InjectorRx.com" for a modest fee they will refurbish the unit back to factory specs.

Take it back for a warranty fix as it is defective from the factory. Do not make any adjustments yourself as they will claim unauthorised work and may not repair under warranty.

Park neutral safety switch maybe be the reason for the no crank ! Try putting the vehicle in park ,then try to crank the engine . Testing the electrical circuit is the best way to trouble shoot this problem , along with do a voltage drop test on the starter circuit ! This will test the battery cables an connections .
Starter Voltage Drop
How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit
Does it have a manual or automatic transmission ? Manual ? clutch switch . Looking at a wiring diagram I also see a starter cut relay !

Then click the search button , then click the blue link ! Check the starter cut relay also . Videos on youtube showing how to test a relay controlled circuit !

PC won't turn on, small green light flashes on back of PC. 2 recent power outages in neighborhood.

Hate to say it, but it's likely your power supply. For years now, HP/Compaq, and Gateway/eMachines/Acer have all been putting 'Bestec'-brand power supplies in their brand-new desktops. I tired of replacing them because a) Brand-new computer owners strayed away from me if I warned them about it prior to 'the inevitable', and b) Often, power surges on these Bestec power supplies would also 'take out' the motherboard, and sometimes even hard drive (and data!). After years of seeing this, I reported this incredible catastrophic known-fail rate to a law firm in NY who is supposedly going after the manufacturers for this problem (or ignoring the problem). Power supplies can be bought for under $100, and any technician who is honest and affordable (and can also afford gas!) should be able to install one for under $50 (I do it for $30, for comparison). Those guys ARE out there--so search one out, and hopefully you'll be up and running in a few nanocycles (sorry, redundant error on my behalf--I'm a nerd, okay?).

Hi there i have a 1990 honda cbr 600 fl that wont start. the engine is turning over and is getting a spark. im not sure how good a spark it is getting but is sparking. i gave it a little skoosh of easy...

Do you have fuel in the float bowls when it won't start? Carbs recently cleaned? On my 1990 CBR600 it turned out to be the fuel pump relay, i had the same situation a few years ago. It started with sporadic shut downs like you have, once nice and hot usually. Then one day, it gave up completely.

See if you can hear the fuel pump running when you're cranking, if you shut the petcock off and run it dry for a very short period of time, you'll definitely hear if it's running or not. Not recommended for any length of time, as the fuel is the pump's lubricant. The relay was causing me lots of grief as everything that would normally be wrong was tested and or rebuilt. I believe there's another test for the relay in the service manual, but the jist of it is if the pump isn't being given juice, it won't work. It is a carbureted bike, but because of the float bowl location to the rest of the fuel system, it's not the lowest point, so it needs the pump to keep filled.

They must degrade over time and be effected by heat, it's just a little part under the seat, I got a replacement from a salvage yard and it's worked perfectly since. It was a desperate situation, beautiful night ride planned and it gave up for good. The only place that had one Saturday afternoon in my area was a salvage yard that said it tested good the dealerships were out. I'd recommend a new one, but the used one was half the price and worked great.
