Put car on ramps. On the lowest point of bottom of the motor, you will see a bolt. . Place drain pan under the bolt, and turn bolt all the way out. Drain all the oil out and re measure what you're putting back in. Place 3 and one half liters back in as the filter holds almost a half a liter. Try not to run the car as you may hurt valve seals air filters etc.Good luck let me know how you make out. Please rate this solution Cheers from Nova Scotia!!

SOURCE: 2006 Chev Cobalt oil filter replacement

i have a 2006 chevy cobalt LT..and i just replaced my oil filter today!!! after several hours of looking i finally looked on the front side of the transmission block.to the left just below the air intake system is a hard heat resistant plastic black bolt topper.it is 1 1/4" in size..i bought a 1 1/2" size and a 36mm size socket torque wrench..both didnt work..1 1/2 was way too big, the 36mm was just slightly too big..took them back, replaced for the 1 1/4" inch socket and voila!!! is was rather difficult..you will need an extender and some good torquing to do to pop it..but once you do it will pop fine..oh, and you will need a 1/2" drive socket wrench.but the 1 1/4"inch socket..pop it onto a 1/2" drive socket wrench with the extender and you are good to go!!

Are you using the original key that came with the car? The chip in that key may have gone bad. Try using the spare key that should have come with the purchase of the car. You may also be having battery issues. If all else fails....call the people who really know how to rape you...DUM Dum dummmmm....the dealer

Fault with the IAC valve.there maybe a trouble code associated with it also./ Go to your nearby autozone or auto parts retailer and ask them to put a scanner to the car....make note of the codes if any are found. the IAC valve i usually locate don the throttle body and can be removed for inspection and sometimes cleaning using a good throttle body cleaner spray and a pipe cleaner brush.

I changed transmission oil and filter on my 2005 chevy cobalt. i filled with 6.7 quarts of oil. How do I check the level on the transmission.

If you have the owner's manual, it should tell you. Or look on the dipstick, it may say something like "Check warm in Park". Usually, with the car warmed up, park on a level surface, put it in Park with the engine running (set the parking brake, block the wheels) and then check it.
Do not overfill! If it is too full, drain some out, or you will damage the transmission.
I assume you know where your transmission dipstick is? The tube is about 3/4 inch in diameter, the handle is usually near the firewall. (This is not the engine oil dipstick.)

Had an oil change about a month ago and about 5 weeks later motor is gone. No oil light came on, no oil leaks

WELL NO OIL LEAKS.WARRANTY MIGHT COVER IT BUT YOU NEED TO SHOW ALL OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS.ALSO YOU HAVE TO USE GM MOTOR OIL LIKE 5W - 30 VALVOLINE USE GM OIL FILTERS.THEY WILL CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU BEEN KEEPING UP WITH SERVICE MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE SCHEDULES.CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL ON DIP STICK SHOULD BE AT FULL MARK LINE. THE CHEVY COBALT LS LT LTZ 2.2 ENGINE HOLDS 5.0 QUARTS OF OIL WITH NEW FILTER AND CHEVY COBALT SS SC HOLDS 6.0 QUARTS WITH NEW FILTER.IF OIL LEVEL LOOK OKAY.CHECK ON INTERNET FOR ANY RECALLS OR ANY TROUBLE WITH EARLY OIL PUMP FAILURE.
