SOURCE: bike dies when I put it in gear

It's a pretty good guess, but there are a few things I would check first. I believe that bike has a wet clutch, so check your oil level first. I can't remember if it's a cable or hydraulic clutch on that bike, I would have to assume hydraulic, but there is a fluid reservior on the clutch if it is hydraulic. As your clutch wears, your fluid level will go down. So check that as well. If it's a cable clutch, then check to see if adjusting the cable does any good. Either way it sounds as if you're going to need a new clutch in the not so distant future so get yourself a manual and study up on changing the clutch. It's not as hard as you would think and it will save you a bundle doing it yourself. Good luck.

Hi, Floyd and the usual suspects are:
1. Idle circuit and transfer ports clogged.
2. Air fuel mixture adjustment too lean.
3. Pilot jet clogged.
4. Faulty accelerator pump.
5. Float level too low.
6. Float bowl contaminated old fuel, water, dirt, rust, etc.
7. Float bowl vent or overflow tube clogged.
8. Fuel flow to carburetor restricted.
9. Intake manifold leak.

Want to bypass tip over sensor

Hi, Anonymous it's not your tip over sensor if your bike starts you may have a faulty kickstand safety switch for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. On my 72 cb100 when I pull the clutch in, the bike dies while idling. It runs fine while getting gas, but does not run at idle. It will start right back up when it does die. Any ideas?

The slow circuit of the carburetor is dirty. Take the carburetor off and remove the slow and main jets. Shoot carburetor cleaner through the jets and through the passageways of the carburetor body to be sure that it is clear. Does the bike die when you pull in the clutch and put it into gear? If it dies when you put it in to gear , you may have clutch plates that are stuck together. Take off the engine side cover, remove the clutch springs, pull out the clutch boss and the clutch plates. Carefully separate the plates, replace any damaged plates, coat the plates with oil and put them back in the same order. This should make the clutch act normally again.
