Interchange Harley 1984 Dry to Wet clutch change

I have an 1984 Harley Davidson FXST. I want to change my dry clutch to a wet clutch. What wet clutch is interchangeable? I was told this is not possible. But, Some 1984 FXST came with a stock wet clutch. I want to have the wet clutch. Any help would be great.

SOURCE: exhaust interchangeable

I think so as long as the engine size is the same. I'm not sure that Evo pipes will fit onto a TwinCam. I bought a pair of Screaming Eagle Slash Cut and they bolted right up no problem. Easy instal

SOURCE: what is the float height setting for a 1984 harley

With the float bowl off and the float assembled in the carb, hold the carb on it's side with the needle and seat hinge upwards.

Set the float height to 0.630" to 0.670" (16-17mm) from the "bottom" of the float to the gasket surface where the float bowl gasket seal is.

These carbs are notorious for leaking past the needle and seat even when the float level is set correctly. They make a tool for refurbishing the seat in the carb as it is not replacable but the tool is very expensive for what it is and the amount of use will get out of it ($100). Sometimes I've set the float level an additional 1mm low (18mm) to put more pressure on the needle if it does leak. Good Luck!

SOURCE: is the primary wet or

The 1983 came with the Shovelhead engine and the primary case was Harley's "dry" primary. Look to see if the hose on the bottom back side of the primary is still on it and it runs up to the engine behind the oil pump. If it is, it's the dry primary. Since people have so many problems with the dry primary, they often convert them to wet primaries. Doing so eliminates a lot of the hoses you see on the Shovelhead.

Good Luck

Clutch lining problem

What type of clutch have you got fitted? Wet or dry?
If it is a wet clutch, what is the problem?
If it is a dry clutch, take it to a dealer for repair as special tools are required.

The front forks go down to far on my fxst 2004 nightrain

If you are saying that your front suspension is too soft, you can change the fork oil in the front forks to a heavier viscosity. I think Harley recommends Type E fork oil. I've found that PJB 30 wt. fork oil works best for me.

Since I'm not familiar with the newer forks, I'll have to recommend that you ask the dealer how to drain and refill the forks and how much oil to put back in them. There are usually two amounts of oil to put in the forks. One amount is a "dry" amount to add when you disassemble the forks and then refill them. The "wet" amount is for when you simply drain the forks and then refill them. Naturally, the "wet" amount will be less than the "dry" amount.

Sorry I couldn't give you more information but my expertise is the earlier model Harley bikes.

Good Luck

Can you tell me how much fork oil goes in my 1990 softail?

If your bike has the 41mm fork tubes, (measure the upper fork tube diameter), like a wide glide. there are two measurements. If you simple drain the tubes and refill, you use the "wet" measurements. If you disassemble and clean up the inside of the tubes, use the "dry" measurement. The book says use "type E" oil.

Wet - 10.2 oz
Dry - 11.2 oz.

Is the primary wet or dry?

Ever since the introduction of the Evolution engine design in 1984/85, the primaries have been wet type primaries. The "dry" primary went out of existance with the old 'Shovelhead' engine.

Frount fork oil amount in a HD XL1200C

"wet" = 9.0 ounces
"dry" = 10.2 ounces
If you simply drain the oil then readd the oil, it is considered a "wet" oil change.

If you disassemble and clean all the components and then add oil, it is considered a "dry" oil change.

1200cc 20000w reg one spark plug is wet the other is black and dry

That means your mixture is too rich. The cylinder with the wet plug may have a cracked rings as well, but i would rejet to a leaner mixture and see if that solves it. Your plugs SHOULD be dry and greyish/brownish
