Hi there,

Not sure about clearance levels, but can tell you there is no English manual for the XJR 400 - only Japanese. Try the XJR owners club. It's full of troubleshooting questions answered in the forums.

SOURCE: my honda 400 bros is not runing right 1 plug is

Sooted plugs proves tht the air-mixture is too rich.(too much fuel going to the combustion chamber)
You have to set the air-mixture screw on the carb/s.
Clean the carb/s, replace 'inline' filter , if you don't have one ..install one, reset float level.
It's better to also check the valve clearance too.
Fit in new plugs (gapping them to specs.) and run the engine to its normal temperature thn set the air-mixture screw...standard setting....all the way in i.e. tighten it slowly to the end making sure not to damage the tip of the screw, thn 2 and half turns outwards to 3.
Start the engine....run to normal temperature and thn reset the air-mixture screw +/- either way.
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: whats the cam shims settings and valve clearance

Intake: .004-.006"
Exhaust: .006-.008"

There are no specific settings for shims. Each valve is a little different and the different thickness shims are used to get the clearance in spec. This also changes as the engine wears. If you need any, the shims will have to be purchased at the dealer.

Please could some1 tell me the valve clearances 4 honda vfr400 nc3o 1992 exsaust/inlets .iam in thailand.

hi ther this is straight out of the vfr 400 manual so bear with me..
the measured clearence of a no.1 cylinder inlet valve is 0.20mm, so b =0.20.

the specified clearence range for an inlet valve is 0.12 to 0.18 mm the mid point being 0.15. so c=0.15

the thickness of the existing shim is 2.200mm, so d=2.2

therefore the required replcement shim a = 0.20-0.15 +2.2 (a=2.25mm) hope this helps

Valve clearances are out

The valve clearances are the same as the GL 500,as I recall they are in .002" - .004", ex .003" - .006". The pilot air technically needs to be adjusted with the motor running. You want to start at 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 turns out.
