Hi,
The fork seals are knackered on my CB1. Is it an easy job to change them, I haven't even got a clue about how to take the forks off but am willing to have a go

Well put on engine stand remove front wheel then mark yokes and fork alignment with marker pen undo retaining clamps on yokes if your forks are upside down ones then undo top cover s then there should be a bolt that holds the inner leg to the fork sleeve once u have removed fork leg remove inner leg from sleeve then you will be able to see the retaining clip inside the sleeve remove this then using a large flat screwdriver get under rubber seal and prize out they are not always easy once done replace with new seal reassemble refill FORK OIL !!! THEN reassemble forks to bike job done
Gaiters, I can assume you are referring to the rubber telescopic spring covers on each fork. There is only one way to change these I'm afraid and that means the forks have to come off the bike and come apart on the bench.Triumph never did anything easy! Take the oppurtunity to clean the forks, replace the oil seals and change the fork oil and inspect all the bits.(might as well) When installing the new gaiters the info I have says to use a light oil to help slip them into place by hand with an even pressure. No screwdrivers or pliers. Hope this has helped, nice to chat with another British fan, good luck with the job.Cheers
HI WEATHER YOU NEED TO SPLIT THE FORKS OR NOT, YOU SHOULD, SOME OF THE OLDER HONDAS REMOVING THE LOWER FORK BOLT, ACCESABLE WHEN THE SPIINDLE HAS BEEN REMOVED, THIS WILL DRAIN THE OIL OUT OF THE FORK LEG THERE WILL BE A WASHER OR SEALING RING ON THIS SO BE CAREFUL NOT TO LOOSE IT WHEN YOU REMOVE THE BOLT, USING A BOWL OR CONTAINER TO CATCH THE OIL, UNDO THE BOLT IN THE LOWER FORK LEG, AFTER ALL THE OIL HAS BEEN REMOVED, PULL DOWN ON THE FORK TUBE IF THIS PULLS OUT OF THE LEG THEN YOU CAN COMPLETE THE JOB QUITE EASY, REMOVE DUST SEAL, CIRCLIP AND OIL SEAL, THE LATER WILL BE QUITE TIGHT IN THE LEG, WHEN YOU EASEMBLE THE FORK YOU WILL HAVE TO UNDO THE TOP FORK NUT TO REPLENISH TTHE OIL
Each fork has an outer dust seal, and an inner seal inside of that. Dirt gets between the seal lip and the fork slider and causes the oil to escape. The fix is to have them (Both sides) replaced. You need a fork seal driver tool (Size specific for the size of the fork) and something to measure out the oil amount. It's not an easy job, if you have never done it. Also... if the oil has never been changed, it's due.
