I have a 94 suzuki quadrunner 250 4wd that is backfiring through the carb intermittently. The exhaust is also turning cherry red. Could this just be a bad intake valve or seat? Or is it timing? I a

Just bought it and thought the carburetor was the problem. Cleaned that and ran it without the air filter. That is how I found the backfiring problem.

Althought that would be very helpful to check it this way, the engine and transmission are not configured in a way to easily look at these parts. Maybe to see if the gear on thecamshaft is keyed properly. In order to access the ignition parts and or timing set on the crankshaft end, I believe the cas halves would have to be split. I was hoping it was just a burnt intake valve seat, but even at that, I'm not sure how to make sure the timing is right on this particular engine.

As far as the breather to the top of the engine goes, just pull off the hose and replace it with a small breather filter and you are good to go. Sorry, but can't help with your vaccum diagram.

SOURCE: where do all the hoses go to a suzuki quadrunner carb

There is one supply hose (larger) and a bunch of vent tubes. The vent tubes really don't matter how they are connected as long as they vent. The vents that point vertical - just loop the tube up and then down towards the ground.

Did you sync the two carbs? If not the rear may be getting all the gas from the rear carb and none to the front. Twist throttle engine off and see if front carb cable is pulling the carb open.
Also unscrew the spark plug boot from the front spark plug wire and trim 1/8th inch off the wire and screw the boot back in. The plug wire end may be corroded on that wire.

I have a 99 Suzuki Quadrunner 500 with an electrical problem. New rectifier still gets warm and shuts bike down after 3-4 min.14 volts going to battery with lights on. Old rectifier was overcharging.

Hi, Robert converting AC to DC creates heat that's why rectifiers have cooling fins and 14 Volts going back into the battery is normal you may have other issues like the fuel tank not venting properly if you still believe your rectifier is causing the problem make sure it has a clean solid ground connection or you can try relocating it to a more cool air friendly environment for more information about your question and valuable free downloads that you will need please visit the websites below. Could be flooding. That usually only occurs when you have excess fuel lighting off in the exhaust. I have seen it happen on cars when the timing is way off. I would pull the carb and check the float level and replace the float valve.

well the cherry red exhaust tells me that its getting way too much fuel, and the idle problem will continue if the float inside the carb is bad, or the needle for fuel cut off is stuck, either way the carb has to come off to be thouroghly cleaned, and check the float, it should be fverry light, and if its a brass one, shake it back and forth by your ear to listen for fuel in it, this will make the float sink lower in the carb and not allow the fuel to shut off. good luck hope this helps

03 beartraker engine pipe getting cherry red and backfiring it also is only running only at full or partial choke

You need to disassemble and clean your carburetor. Make sure the jets and carb body passageways are clean and clear. Unburned fuel from running the cycle on choke is burning in your exhaust pipe.

Either way too lean, or air intake leak, or the cam timing is out.
Does it help with the choke on?

Not certain of the timing on that model, but at top dead centre there should be some marks on the cam sprockets that will line up with the rocker gasket surface. The previous owner may have changed the timing by a tooth or two to try for more performance .

Because the timing is off. If the timing is too advanced, or too retarded, it will make your exhaust pipe cherry red.

Samurai backfire

It sounds more like a timing problem. If it backfires through the carb that means the intake valve is open when the spark plug fires. Same with the exaust but it the exhaust valve that is open.
