Question about 2007 Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM

Wont rev up, just makes a noise like a tractor

Sounds like carb freeze, wont rev up, just makes a lot of noise. its not carb freeze, have taken carb off and checked it over and everything is ok. taken the head off to see if the cam chain is causing the problem, but its not its fine. the bike is also very hot after about 2 minutes of running, can not hold hand behind exhaust because its burns after 2 minutes.
think now it maybe the cdi unit under the seat.
hope somebody can help

Hi m8,, if the motors running hot thats usually weak mixture if the spark plug is white on the end, then ,will be running weak ,,or timing is a little out ,, try a timing light strobe first be 4 ,checkin the cdi, put a bit of white tippex or paint on the tdc mark,, wen u point the strobe at timing marks ,the white painted mark should be in line with the pointer, can adjust the backing plate of the coil pickups accordingly, cheers

Hi,I have a 1983 vf750s, I bought it as a non runner and have just rebuilt the carbs with replacement diaphragms. It runs but when you open the throttle it wont rev cleanly and the revs drop slowly when...

it could be a number of things. Could be a pinched diaphragm for the slides. Could be and intake leak. could be a circuit clogged as well . Too many variables to give just one answer.

Wont rev over 4000 revs

It sounds as if you have a dirty set of carbs. They do get dirt in them occasionally because petrol stations don't drain and clean their tanks.

Starts on choke but won't rev and stops when trying to rev or choke off

It sounds like either the jets in the carb are plugged or the slide diaphragm in the carb has a hole in it. First take the air filter cover and air filter off the carb. Start the engine with the "choke". Do not get your face too close to the carb but look into the carb and gently rev the engine. The slide should move up and down. If so, the diaphragm is probably alright. If the bike has been sitting up for a good while, the gasoline in the float bowl would have evaporated and left behind a thick gummy residue. This may have the main and slow speed jets plugged up. The carb will have to be taken off the engine and professionally cleaned.

Good Luck

I have 1990 harley flhs ..model flt 1340cc..when choke on bike runs and revs up ..take choke off bike idels but wont rev up back fires n pops..i cleaned carb and it getting gas to carb..

It sounds like the jets in your carb are stopped up. It could be any one of several things but the problem is in the carb. Cleaning the outside of the carb makes no difference, you must remove and clean out the main jet and the slow speed jet. Also you need to check the operation of the accelerator pump. Even spraying carb cleaner inside the venturi of the carb does no good, the carb needs to be completely disassembled and cleaned. To be more specific, I'd need to know exactly which carb is on the bike, keihen butterfly, keihen CV, or aftermarket.

One carb does not want to fuel on low revs ie remove plug lead from good pot on low revs it stops remove plug lead on good pot with revs it wiil run remove bad plug lead on low revs makes no change to...

Sounds like you need to remove the carbs and dismantle them and clean all the parts real good.
Remember if you separate the carbs from each other you will need to resync the carbs.

Ticking noise and general engine noise after burnouts...

If he was doing burnouts it could be multiple problems - overheating, too many revs, drivetrain hammered.
Certainly a lot of burnouts can cause overheating - no air and lots of revs gets things hot really fast!
High revs can result in camchain issues, piston/valves coming together, broken rings, siezed pistons, broken bearings, and much more :)
Sorry to hear this - I suggest a trip to a bike mechanic to get a diagnosis before it gets worse and costs you a packet.

Banshee wont rev

Usually related to TORS, specifically the safety switch in the clutch/park brake assembly. If it's defective the engine won't rev. Solution: look for a TORS removal kit.

Wont start sounds like it's getting no spark and starter makes noise.

check the compression and timeing it is easy that the during the lay down the coiles and resistor could have shifted just a little and through off the timeing.

Engine loses revs on tickover and makes a stange clicking noise.

Could be a carburation problem, or could be one of the many ignition/carb control devices faulty, a workshop manual would guide you through the separate continuity tests for the separate components. |You would need to be able to use a circuit tester! The noise you hear maybe nothing but sommit thats become more audible to you because the general noise has dropped, but sounds to me like a fault on an electrical component on the carb. Good Luck - the Yeti
